No change without customers’ request

Being a makeup brush manufacturer who is specializing in customizing makeup brushes, we should do everything according to customer’s instruction.

 

If customers do not request any change on the brush, we should ensure the second batch is totally the same as the first batch.

 

The reason to mention this is because recently we found a problem during our quarter checking.

 

We have produced some brushes for a customer for two years, they always order the frequent items, so we clearly know their each requirements. One of our sales directs all affairs of the customer from the very beginning, so we believed there must be no problem on the order of this customer.

 

However, during our quarter checking, we found a serious problem. The logo of the first batch is horizontal but all the following batch is vertical. Although the customer did not found this problem and had no complaint, we still need to investigate and affix the responsibility for this issue.

 

Finally, we found the reason: the brush is originally designed to be placed vertically, so the sales believe it will be better to have the logo also to be vertical. Therefore, he let the printing factory to change the logo from horizontal to vertical.

 

We immediately wrote a email to the customer to feedback such problem, although the customer also believe vertical will be better, we sincerely apologize for this problem and promised no such issue would appear again. We also seriously educated and train the sales to let him know he can not change anything without customer’s request.

 

Although sometimes we may be more professional than some customers, but we should never change anything withou request.

 

If we do have some good suggestions and want to offer better brush to customer, we should firstly feedback to customer and get customer’s confirmation on this suggestion.

 

What is good customer service?

This morning, we got an email from a customer who wants to order only 1 brush set with their own logo. While per our company policy, our MOQ is 500pcs each. We explained such situation to them and say sorry that we can not accept order for only one set. The customer was very angry and said they would find another supplier who can provide good customer service. They think we do not offer good service to them. It is somewhat unfair to us.

Per our understanding, good customer service includes pre-sale service, sales service and after-sale service. During per-sale service, we will try best to offer enough information to customers, so that customers can gradually get detailed product information, fully understand our company policy, and know each detail to establish cooperation with us. If customers and makeup brush manufacturers can not reach agreement on some conditions or terms during custom makeup brushes, we believe it is not related to bad service, just different company policy and position.

Once both sides reach agreement on all conditions, both sides should strictly fulfill the agreement: the makeup brush manufacturers should offer qualified makeup brushes within lead time, and keep customers posted for any information, and customers should arrange payment on time. Many customers like MAC brush very much, especially the hair shape. About the MAC imitation and fakes in Chinese market

It is known that there are so many MAC imitation or fakes in Chinese market, maybe the same situation in other countries. 1)      Extra stocks of MAC authentic brushes. That means the makeup brush factory officially produces brushes for MAC, but they produce more brushes and sell to Chinese market without MAC’s authorization. In this situation, those brushes can not be called fakes but a kind of tort, as the brushes are 100% the same as MAC authentic, the same quality, same material, same appearance, same logo, same packing and same barcode.

2)      Exact copy of MAC authentic brushes. Some makeup brush manufacturers have been in the makeup brush industry for many years and are very familiar with MAC brushes. So they can exact copy the MAC brushes, same quality, same material, same appearance, same logo and same packing even if they never produce brushes for MAC. However, they can exact copy all others but not barcode. As MAC barcode varies frequently, so if they have no MAC authentic samples with barcode on hand, they will not be able to exact copy the brushes. In this situation, even if the quality is the same as the MAC brushes, the fakes may be recognized by the professional users.

3)      Just fakes. That means the brushes are just logoed with MAC logo, but the quality are far away from MAC quality. Those bad manufacturers use inferior materials to produce makeup brushes but logoed MAC to cheat consumers. After getting the brushes, the consumers will see the obvious differences: poor workmanship, poor quality, and ugly appearance….just with MAC logo. It is the worst fakes, as the consumers may pay a lot but get very poor brushes.

Any imitation is infringement act and should be punished by law. But, for consumers, if they do not care about brand too much, the first two situations are acceptable if with prior notice from the suppliers, as the quality is the same as MAC authentic but price is much lower. After all, for ordinary consumer, MAC brushes are not affordable. But the fakes are the worst cheating, and will not only ruin MAC brushes but also hurt consumers.

Proper packing for brush sets with paper cover

The bamboo handle color

Some customers would like to custom makeup brushes with bamboo handle. Bamboo handle becomes very popular these years, due to the environmental protection, also very cost-effective and beautiful.

Bamboo handle is usually painted transparent painting, so customers can clearly see its texture and color. Sometimes, customers may find the colors of individual handles are different. For example, some handle color is white but some is a little yellow, so they consider it to be a kind of quality problem. Here we want to describe something about the handle color.

It is known that bamboo is very thick, and makeup brush handle is comparatively extremely slim. Due to environment protection and cost consideration, no makeup brush manufacturers will use one bamboo section to produce one handle with the same length. We need to split the thick bamboo section to several pieces to match the diameter of the handle and make full use of all bamboos. The colors of these pieces are different, the outer pieces are a little yellow, but the inner pieces are somewhat whiter. Label or tag on makeup brushes

For those customers who just enter into makeup brush industry and have no idea on which brushes are good, they usually require samples with various materials to check which brushes are ok for them. But if makeup brush manufacturers just put all kinds of brushes together in boxes without any explanation or illustration, it will be somewhat nonsense to send the samples.

To help customers exactly understand the difference between different materials, we should put a label /tag on each brush to specify its material of each part, just like: ZGF goat hair, copper ferrule, wooden handle. In this way, once customers receiving the samples, they can know the material difference by viewing and touching. They will know that ZGF goat hair is much softer than HJG goat hair, copper ferrule is shinning than aluminum ferrule; and wooden handle is more proper for their application….Then, the following communication will be much easier, if they decide to custom makeup brushes, they will tell the makeup brush manufacturer the exact material they need.

Just one thing during labeling, do not directly affix the label with glue or adhesive tape on brushes, otherwise, after being removed, the labels will leave ugly glue remnants on brushes, which may affect customers’ quality evaluation. So we should pack each brush with an OPP bag, and affix the label on the OPP bag, then customers can easily remove the label without leaving any remnants.

How to take makeup brush picture

During custom makeup brushes, we usually send real samples for customers’ confirmation. While sometimes, due to the expensive international shipping charge or urgent delivery, customers may require picture confirmation via email. The purpose of the brush pictures is to show the actual brushes situation to customers, so should no Photoshop or any prettification on the pictures, otherwise, the picture confirmation will be nonsense.

 

The limit of picture confirmation is that some customers can not feel the brush material, for example, whether the hair is soft or not? The ferrule is copper or ferrule? Or the handle is wooden or bamboo or plastic? Anyway, if the customers are professional, they can judge the brush material from the pictures, which is why we can quote according to pictures. As professional makeup brush factory, we can judge the material from pictures as long as the pictures are clear enough.

Why customers should take more responsibility for custom makeup brush

Not like wholesale, if customers would like to custom makeup brushes, they should take more responsibilities.

Most express companies increase the shipping cost

Recently, we are notified by most express companies like DHL/FEDEX/UPS that they will increase the shipping cost. Comparing the update price with that in 2011, we find that such increase is rather high.

In 2011, the charge for the shipment over 100kg is about 5.0/kg, but this year it become USD6.5/kg.

During custom makeup brushes, if the quantity is not too huge, our customers usually choose express or airfreight to deliver the makeup brushes. As if by sea, it will take more than 30 days and the moisture may cause some problem on the makeup brushes. For express and airfreight, more customers will prefer express since it will save more time and the cost is not too high. So they usually pay the shipping charge to the makeup brush factory and let the factory arrange everything for them.

However, now, due to the price increase of express, many customers begin to consider airfreight, as the charge to ship via airfreight is much cheaper than express now, even if the airfreight may not offer door to door service.

Although airfreight is not as convenient for us as express, as a professional makeup brush manufacturer, we will do our best to meet customer every requirement. Customers just need to let us know their shipping way in advance as well as their forwarder contact information, then we will arrange everything at our side.

The deposit for makeup brush order

In China, most makeup brush manufacturers will require deposit for each order. Only after getting the deposit, we can order material and start production. It is a rule in makeup brush industry.  If customers do not agree to pay deposit, we would rather give up the customers.

 

Some customers cannot understand such rule, for them, it is unfair to pay without receiving products. They believe their official order is enough for the makeup brush manufacturers to arrange production. But for manufacturers, we have met so many customers who have placed order but finally cancel the order; at that time, we have ordered & paid the raw material, and the production is almost finished, but the order is cancelled, we have to afford all cost and loss by ourselves… If such issue happens twice a year, we have to close down.

 

As for the deposit percentage, some makeup brush manufacturers will require 30%, some may require 50% or more. 30% is the least, if less than 30%, the deposit will be somewhat meaningless. For common makeup brush sets, we can agree 30%-50% deposit, as even if the customers finally cancel the order, the material can be used for other orders; but for single brushes with huge order quantity, we will require more than 50% deposit, as if unfortunately the customers cancel the order, the material will become useless. One of our competitors once met a customer who ordered a single brush with huge quantity, and they also have arranged 30% deposit, but when the production is almost finished, they cancelled the order and declared that they no longer needed the brushes or deposit. But the fact is they immediately asked their Chinese agent to recycle the brushes from the manufacturer with extremely low price. Since the brushes have become useless for the manufacturer, they have to sell the brush to the agent even at great loss. Therefore, the customer finally gets the same brush with much lower price even if they give up the deposit. With such lesson, the makeup brush manufacturers get know that the order of single brushes has more risks.

 

We really would like to gain order as many as we can, but the premise the orders will not cause too much risks. Deposit is a way to control our risks, hope our customers can understand such rule.

Crystals on brush handles

It is known that brush handle material can be wooden, plastic and metal. Usually, the handle color is one color such as black, white, red etc and only with customers’ logo on the handle. But some customers will also require more decoration on the handles, crystals is a common choice for such decoration.

Some customers will require only 1-5 crystals on the handle, which is easy and will not interfere with applying the make up; and crystal size can be small or a little large depends on customers’ requirements; also the customers’ logo can also be printed on the handle.

Some customers will require the crystals to be made in certain shape or letters, for example a flower shape and customers’ logo shape. It will need more crystals, and the crystal size should be smaller, otherwise, it will interfere with applying the makeup.

There are also some customers who require crystals glued all over the handles. In this case, the crystal size must be very tiny, or it will be difficult to use such makeup brushes. Some may ask: if crystals are all over the handles, where to print the customers’ logo? Usually, the logo will be stamped on the ferrule.

If customers would like to custom makeup brushes with crystals on handles, besides the normal information such as the brush size/material/color etc, they should also offer the following information to the makeup brush manufacturer: crystal size, crystal shape, crystal color, crystal quantity and position on each brush. Also, customers should be aware that although crystal can make the brushes more shinning, the extra cost will be high.
