Some customers would like to custom makeup brushes with bamboo handle. Bamboo handle becomes very popular these years, due to the environmental protection, also very cost-effective and beautiful.

Bamboo handle is usually painted transparent painting, so customers can clearly see its texture and color. Sometimes, customers may find the colors of individual handles are different. For example, some handle color is white but some is a little yellow, so they consider it to be a kind of quality problem. Here we want to describe something about the handle color.

It is known that bamboo is very thick, and makeup brush handle is comparatively extremely slim. Due to environment protection and cost consideration, no makeup brush manufacturers will use one bamboo section to produce one handle with the same length. We need to split the thick bamboo section to several pieces to match the diameter of the handle and make full use of all bamboos. The colors of these pieces are different, the outer pieces are a little yellow, but the inner pieces are somewhat whiter. Therefore, the makeup brushes with bamboo handles show little color difference. They are all the original colors of bamboo instead of oxidation or any quality problem.

However, the color difference of the outer bamboo and inner bamboo is slight, so if the makeup brushes with bamboo handles show serious color difference, it should be quality problem. That is because the bamboo will be oxidized in the rainy day. Therefore, the bamboo handle should be painted in time to avoid of such oxidation.

About color difference of makeup brush

Different customers have different preference on colors, so during custom makeup brushes, customers will send their color requirement to the makeup brush factory. To let the makeup brush factory exactly understand which color they want, customers will send the pantone color code to the manufacturers.

 

However, sometimes, after receiving the brushes, customers may find that the color of this batch is different from last batch. They consider it to be quality problem. In fact, if the color difference is slight, it is a normal situation. As the painting color is not fixed but blended by powder pigment. For example, if customers require pink color (213C pantone), the makeup brush manufacturers will then manually blend the color accordingly. Since it is manual work, no one can ensure 100% the same as the pantone code.

 

Therefore, for the same batch, the color will be the same, as they are from the same painting. But if the customers place another order after several months, it is hard to ensure that the color of this batch will be 100% the same as the previous ones. No matter how skillful the workers are, it is hard to blend 100% consistent color.

 

Anyway, it is really the quality problem if the color difference is visible. But if the color difference is within acceptable range, it should not be a quality problem.

 

So, if customers have strict requirement on the color consistence, it is better not to frequently change the makeup brush manufacturers, as different manufactures will most probably blend different color; even the same manufactures are not able to always blend the same color.

 

Plastic handle of makeup brushes

It is known that wooden handle and plastic handle are the most common handle material for makeup brushes. Most users will prefer wooden handle for their daily usage, while due to its limit on the shape, wooden handle are not always the preference for all customers. Some customers want to custom makeup brushes with their own style; they aim to show a unique makeup brush to the users, so they cudgel their brains on the brush shape.

Plastics, thanks for their property, can be molded to various shapes to meet customers’ requirements on the handle shape. Most plastic handle shape will be achieved by injection molding, while the molding fee is very expensive, so if the order quantity is not so huge, plastic handle may not be a wise choice.

If customers would like to have plastic handles, they should send their design/drawing to the makeup brush manufacturers. Not like wooden handle which just needs the diameter and length, plastic handle needs detailed size of each part, so that the makeup brush manufacturers can check and evaluate the molding fee and other cost. Therefore, a detailed drawing is essential, 3D drawing will be the best, if no 3D drawing, 2D drawing with detailed size on each part will be also ok.

After calculating the exact cost, the makeup brush factory will quote customers in detail, including the molding fee, the unit price on the makeup brush etc. After paying the molding fee, customers will have the ownership on the mold; they can decide to leave the mold on the brush factory for future orders or to ship the mold to themselves. The brush factory has no right to handle the mold.

The bronze powder on brush handles

These days, we are making some prototypes for a customer who would like to have brush handles in different color. Since the customer has not finalized the color they prefer, we can not buy paintings with each color which will be a huge cost. Therefore, to show customers the effect of each color, we spray some bronze powders instead on the brush handles and plan to send them to customers for confirmation.

 

While our ideas are obstructed once we send the prototypes. According to our local FedEx, the products with powders are not permitted to ship via air, unless the powders are certificated to be harmless. While the certification cost is too high and once the customer confirm the demand color, we will use painting on the brush handles instead of powder, so it is not worthwhile to do such certificate for so few prototypes. After communicating with customer on such situation, we have to give up such ideas and try to find out another option.

 

However, it does not mean that makeup brushes can not have powders on. To reach certain effect, during custom makeup brush, some customers will require some bronze powders on the brush handles. So the makeup brush manufacturers will mix the powders into the paintings and then do the painting on the handles. At this situation, the powders become a part of the painting, enter into the painting and will not fall down, so not need to do the certification.

 

As a professional makeup brush manufacturer, we always try our best to meet customers’ requirements, while sometimes we can not control everything. For example, we have to follow the instruction of the express company during shipment. So if customers plan to send us some samples or prototypes with bronze powders to show what kind of makeup brushes they need, please do remember to check with the local shipping company to confirm if it is ok, otherwise, even if the samples can be sent from shipper, the consignee may not be able to receive them due to their local regulation.

Crystals on brush handles

It is known that brush handle material can be wooden, plastic and metal. Usually, the handle color is one color such as black, white, red etc and only with customers’ logo on the handle. But some customers will also require more decoration on the handles, crystals is a common choice for such decoration.

Some customers will require only 1-5 crystals on the handle, which is easy and will not interfere with applying the make up; and crystal size can be small or a little large depends on customers’ requirements; also the customers’ logo can also be printed on the handle.

Some customers will require the crystals to be made in certain shape or letters, for example a flower shape and customers’ logo shape. It will need more crystals, and the crystal size should be smaller, otherwise, it will interfere with applying the makeup.

There are also some customers who require crystals glued all over the handles. In this case, the crystal size must be very tiny, or it will be difficult to use such makeup brushes. Some may ask: if crystals are all over the handles, where to print the customers’ logo? Usually, the logo will be stamped on the ferrule.

If customers would like to custom makeup brushes with crystals on handles, besides the normal information such as the brush size/material/color etc, they should also offer the following information to the makeup brush manufacturer: crystal size, crystal shape, crystal color, crystal quantity and position on each brush. Also, customers should be aware that although crystal can make the brushes more shinning, the extra cost will be high.

Makeup brushes with Bamboo handles

Due to environment protection consideration, some customers may prefer bamboo handles for their makeup brushes. It is ok for many makeup brush manufacturers to produce such bamboo brushes, while customers should understand that the lead time for bamboo handles will be longer than wooden or plastic handles.

 

The reason is the original color of bamboo is slight yellow, while customers always require the color to be white, so the makeup brush factory has to do some special process to change the color to be white, and then do the painting. For the wooden handles, if the weather is rainy, we can bake dry the paint to ensure on-time delivery; but for bamboo handles, we can not bake them but only air dry or sun dry. If baked, the bamboo handle paint will change to yellow again. Therefore, on rainy day, it is usually hard for us to deliver the makeup brushes on time.

 

During custom makeup brushes, if customers would like to have bamboo handles, we usually offer longer lead time than wooden handles, while sometimes, we can not foresee the weather situation in future, so sometimes if it rains for many days, we may not ship the goods on time only because the paint is not dry enough.

 

We indeed want to get the understanding from customers on such issue, while we know that it is really our responsibility to control everything during makeup brush production including the weather situation. Therefore, if our normal lead time is 30 days, in June and July which is the rainy season in China, we may quote 45 days for makeup brushes with bamboo handles. The situation will also happen in winter. If customers can accept 45 days that will be ok for both of us; while if customers are urgently in need of the brushes, we will try our best to expedite the shipment, but we can not promise anything as we can not control the weather.

 

As a makeup brush factory, we always try our best to meet customers’ all requirements, but we also need customers’ understanding and support once any inevitable issue happens.

The paint on makeup brush handle

For makeup brushes, no matter with wooden handle, bamboo handle or plastic handle, all need to be painted to required color or effect. Since there are various paints on the market, here we would like to introduce something about the paint used on makeup brushes.

 

The paints we usually use are NC (nitrocellulose), PE (polyethylene) , and PU（polyurethane）, each of them includes various colors and coloring agent such as the glaze on NC paint,

 

The most common paint is NC paint, it is the most economic and normal paint. While some countries have strict control on paint usage, NC paint may not pass their customs, so some customers may require PE or PU paint on the makeup brush handles. PU and PE is expensive than NC, so the unit price of the makeup brushes will relatively higher.

 

All NC, PE and PU paint has topcoat and primer paint with different colors. Since they are chemical products, most European countries may require test reports or certificates on such paint to ensure that the paint has no harm to environment and human body. If so, all related paints including topcoat, primer paint and glaze should be submitted to the test institute to do the test.

 

If without special requirement, the makeup brush factory will use NC as default paint, so before placing orders, customers should clearly understand their government policy on paint; if NC paint is not ok, customers should clarify during custom makeup brushes, so that the makeup brush factory can quote accordingly; if related test reports are required, the fee should be afforded by customers.

Makeup Brush Handles

The makeup brush handles are designed with specific types and techniques of painting in mind. The brush handle must be balanced properly to be comfortable to hold & manipulate and at the same time it must also be strong to withstand pressure. Many scholastic and mass-produced handles are made from hard woods for these reasons. Handle styles directly relate to the brushes particular tasks, such as sash, panel, etc. Handles today are made of strong structural material that resists water and solvents.

 

Traditionally, manufacturers have provided artists with two lengths and tapers of makeup brush handles. Short-handled brushes are the choice when makeup for ourselves; Long-handled brushes are usually used when makeup for others

 

Types of Handles

 

Artist-type handle are made of seasoned hardwood, lathe shaped and properly balanced to give the most comfortable grip. The pores of the wood are sealed and several coats of lacquer are applied to give the handle a polished high gloss finish.

 

Taped handles are made of seasoned hardwood dowels and tapered both ends; they are either finely sanded plain wood or finished with several coats of varnish or enamel. Some makeup brushes have molded, plastic handles instead of wood.

Handle material of makeup brushes

The handle material can be plastic, wood, metal, acrylic, bamboo and so on.

Plastic handle: can be PS, ABS, AS, PE, PP, can mix any color or add powders such as glitter powder. The plastic handle is normally used for exported makeup brushes. The one-off molding fee is rather high, but the total cost is lower than other types of handles.

Wooden handle: The wooden handle and plastic handle is the most common handle. Wooden handle is mostly used for high-grade makeup brushes; the surface can be painted vary colors. The material can be schima superba, mahogany, rubber wood, birch wood, Dalbergia odorifera, sandalwood, etc. The most popular and cost-effective material is birch wood.

Metal handle: normally can be aluminum handle and copper handles; both can be freely printed logo

Acrylic handle: can be transparent, dyeing, waves, bubbles etc. The acrylic handle is high grade, the raw material is expensive, so the total makeup brush is more expensive too.

Bamboo handle: becomes very popular these years, due to the environmental protection, also very cost-effective.
