Some users care much more on the material, but in fact, workmanship is sometime more important than material. After all, the makeup brush is a kind of beauty products, some customers care the visual perception very much.

 

For example, some makeup brush manufacturers use top grade material on the brushes, such as ZGF goat hair and copper ferrule, and quote very high price to the customers. Although the customers think the price is really higher, but they believe they will get great quality with such price. Therefore, they place orders to the makeup brush manufacturer and then are looking forward to perfect brushes. However, after unpacking, they are shocked by the bad quality. Yes, the brushes have great touching feeling and are very comfortable. But how poor the workmanship is! There are obvious glue hints on the ferrule and handle, many hairs falling down during application, the joints of ferrule and handle have distinct gap and hairs exposed from the joint, the hairs has heavy smell….

 

The customers must be angry since they pay so much on the brushes. No matter how great the material is, the brush just look like low grade products, and it is impossible to sell high price.

 

Also, even with relatively lower grade material, if the workmanship is perfect, no any flaw, the brush will look like great high grade product and can certainly sell much higher price.

 

In this case, workmanship is much more important than material. No person will care yourinner qualities when you have ugly apperance. This principle also apply to makeup brushes. No users will care the material of the brushes with ugly and dirty apperance.

 

The flaws of makeup brushes

Makeup brush production is totally manual work, therefore, flaws is somewhat avoidless during production. Some flaws must be improved, while some flaws can be accepted if not affect the usage or appearance.

 

The makeup brushes with the following flaws must be reworked by the makeup brush manufacturer:

1.       Visible apperance flaws: makeup brush is a kind of beauty products or art products, even if we can not require 100% perfect, we can not accept visible flaws on apperance, for example,ferrule nicks. Although we know that the small nicks will not affact our makeup applying, it will affect our mood once we see the nicks during each apply.

2.       inproper bristle shape: to gain perfect makeup, each brush should have their special bristle shape, such as dome, flat or taper. While for some makeup brushes, although the whole shape is good and as required, but after carefully checking, we may find that some position does not conform with the whole shape, so it just look like a gap. Which will not only affect the powder holding but also the apperance.

 

Although the above flaws can not be called quality problem, it really can not be accepted, it can be improved by proper skill

 

However, some flaws can not be avoided, they are caused by the material itself or manual work characteristics, for example:

1.       The wood texture or small salient point: wood is natural products, we can not control its grow, what we can do is to cut them into required shape. Therefore, customers should understand the texture difference of handles, and can not require to rework such difference. No makeup brush factory can gurantee that all brushes are 100% the same. Also, there will be a small salient point on some makeup brush handles. It is very normal for wooden handle.

2.       small and invisible glue mark: our workers gather the bristles by glue, connect the ferrule and handle by glue, adhere brush rolls and holders by glue. Glue is a essential material during makeup brush, so glue marks are inevitable during brush production. Although we will wipe off the visible glue marks during quality inspection, some invisible glue marks may be missed, and can not be found or wiped off. Users should understand that manual work is controlled by human beings, and no manual work can be perfect.

A good makeup brush

During customizing makeup brushes from the makeup brush manufacturers, customers must have their own requirements on the brush material, size and color etc. Therefore, during production  inspection or warehouse-out inspection, the makeup brush manufacturers should carefully check if the makeup brushes meet all these requirements.

However, besides customers’ special requirements, there are normal quality standards which apply to all makeup brushes, no matter the hair is top grade or low grade, the ferrule is copper or aluminum, the handle is black or red, the logo is silk printing or hot stamping.

1. No serious bristle falling, it is known that most bristles are animal hair, it is normal to have several bristle falling at the very beginning. Our QA team will sweep them for more than 40 times to check if there are many bristles falling.

2. No glue hint on the ferrule and handle;

3. No bristles clipped among the ferrule;

4. No metal burrs on ferrule;

5. Bristles,ferrules and handles connect well, no invisible gap

6. Ferrules can not be easily extracted from handle

7. Hair, ferrule and handle color should be meet customers' requirement, no color difference;

8. Proper logo printing;

9. Proper package

In a word, no matter what is the grade level of the makeup brushes, they should have good apperance, and no big problem during applying. It is the best that customers can know these requirements during customizing makeup brushes

The shaping of eye brushes and lip brushes

To reach certain makeup effect, some brush bristles may need to have special shape. Some can be shaped by finishing or cutting, such as the angled blush brushes or angled eyebrow brushes. The angled blush brushes can be shaped during hair mounding; the angled eyebrow brushes can be shaped by cutting bristles. By the way, some may wonder why not cut the blush brushes too, that will be much easier for workers. That is because most blush brushes are made of animal hairs, which will become stiff after cutting, while the eyebrow brushes are made of synthetic hairs which will keep the softness after cutting.

Anyway, some bristles can not be shaped by finishing or cutting, and have to be shaped by special glue. For example, the pencil brushes, the eye liner brushes and lip brushes. These brushes require all bristles to be gathered into the center, such effect can not be reached by manual. Therefore, the makeup brush manufacturers will use some green (environmental protective) glue to fix the shape of bristles. Then after cetain period, the bristles will keep the shape even the glue is removed, dried or washed.

Usually, some glues will become powders after drying.If not, before shipment, the makeup brush factory will remove the glue by washing, because the glued bristles will be very stiff for makeup apply. Therefore, users will not find the existance of the glue.

Since the glue has been removed before shipment, some bristles may become deformed after reaching customers or users, even if we have add some tubes on some brush heads such as lip brushes to avoid of such deformation during shipment. However, such deformation will not affect the makeup effect, as the whole bristles are still gathering. If users really care such deformation, you can reshape the bristles by fixing them into a place for certain period, then they will be back to the normal shape.

The cool weather may affect makeup brush quality

In China, this winter is much cooler than before, which not only causes uncomfortable of human body, but also affects makeup brush quality. Some customers may doubt such statement and believe it is only the excuse of the makeup brush manufacturers. Here we would like to explain details as the following:

Firstly, we should clarify that the affects we mention here are not all bad, some are good affects. For example, the goat hair in winter is much softer than that in summer. It is the characteristics of goat hair. Therefore, even if we use the same goat hair grade such as ZGF goat hair, the makeup brushes made of the ZGF goat hair cut in winter will be much softer than that cut in summer. Sometimes, customers will doubt that we mixed some inferior hairs into their brushes since they get two batches with different touching. That is really misunderstanding; we care our fames and credit than everything, and will not do such bad thing to destroy our own brand. The hairs are really the same quality and grade, just different touching in different seasons.

Secondly, everything will become fragile in the cool weather, which is also the situation of makeup brush ferrule and logo. The makeup brush ferrules are made of metal, everyone know that metal will become fragile in cool situation. Therefore, while clamping the ferrule in winter, the fragility will cause more than one clamp marks on the ferrules. It is really not the problem of workmanship but material characteristics.

During custom makeup brushes, most customers will need their logo on the makeup brush handles, while after getting the brushes, they may find that some letters blur. If such situation happens in summer, that is because the makeup brushes are packed before the painting dry up. That is the quality problem. But in winter, that is mostly because the logo printing is also fragile and easy to be scratched. No matter how carefully the workers pack the brushes, it will cause some scratching more or less.

We will do our best to avoid any problem during production, however, sometimes, we can not avoid of the disadvantages of material characteristics. We really hope to get understanding from customers.

The defects and rework of makeup brushes

No makeup brush factory can promise that their makeup brushes are 100% perfect. During inspection, some finished brushes will be considered as defects, and even the finished brushes finally pass the inspection, it may have some quality problem during production. For example, the makeup brushes may have glue hint during production; the ferrule may have scratches due to workers’ operation; the handle color may not meet customers’ requirements; the brush hairs may lose hairs heavily; the ferrule and handle may not connect well…..

For the makeup brush factory, some defects can be reworked, while some have to be scrapped. If the handle color is wrong, there is no way but scrap all handles; if there are clear and heavy scratches on the ferrules and handles, we also have to scrap the scratched ferrules and handles, as there is no way to rework them.

However, some defects can really be reworked. For example, the glue hint or overflow, we can remove the hint and extra glue with special solution after production; also if we find the ferrule and handle do not connect well, we can melt the glue and connect them again; if the brush lose hairs heavily, we can disassemble the brush heads and process the hairs again….

Most defects are caused and can be reworked during production. And it will save a lot of time and money if the defects are reworked during production. If we find the quality problem after production, it may cause serious problem, and we may have to scrap the finished brushes if there is no way to disassemble brushes. Also, it will greatly affect the delivery time and cause breach of contract. Therefore, process control is very important to most makeup brush manufacturers.

For a professional makeup brush factory, inspection after production is far away from enough. We should control each production process and try our best to rework the defects at the related steps, so that we can reduce the lost to minimum.

How to reduce hairs falling of makeup brushes during daily using and washing.

Firstly, the water to wash brushes should not too hot, and prevent ferrule from water, otherwise, the hot water may dissolve the glue in the ferrule and cause buckets of hairs falling.

Do not pull the brush head heavily during washing, it is better to clean the brush with SWIRL ways.

After washing, use towel or tissue to slightly squeeze from ferrule to hair tips to absorb waters, do not rub or strip the hairs.

Finally dry the makeup brushes in the air with upside down.

During daily use, apply makeup slightly following the hair direction, and do not let the hair touch stiff or sharp material. If you slightly clamp a ZGF goat hair with tweezers, the hair will break even if you do not use any force.

Do not rub the brush hair heavily to ensure whether any hairs will fall or not.

Some customers who custom makeup brushes from us will screen our makeup brushes after getting the shipment. And to ensure no hair falling, they rub the brush heads on their arms heavily and surprisely find that so many hairs falling down, so they believe it is quality problem. In fact, as long as the brushes are made of animal hair, no matter how expensive and with top grade the brushes are, they will fall hairs with heavy rub.

The normal testing method is slightly sweep the brush hairs on your hands for several times and check if any hairs falling down. The proper screening should be the same as daily makeup applying process; we believe no one will apply the brush on their face so heavily?  

Although the makeup brush will fall several hairs during the first usage, it should be no more hairs falling if it is properly used in daily applying and washing. The makeup brush lifetime also depends on users.

Why the makeup brushes fall hairs

Many ladies are troubled by the hair falling of makeup brushes no matter how expensive the brushes are. If the brushes keep falling many hairs for long time, it must be quality problem. But most makeup brush manufacturers will tell you that it is normal to have several hairs falling at the beginning. Here we would like to explain why the makeup brushes fall hairs:
It is known that the standard production process should be as following: weight certain hairs and comb, insert the hairs into moulds to shape, bundle up the hairs with string, insert the hairs into ferrule and adjust the exposed length, dip glue onto the hairs from ferrule, shape after glue dried, assemble handles, and pack the brushes for shipment.
The whole production process is manual, so the work craft will determine the quantity of hair falling.
Firstly, if the hair quality is not good, with too many short hairs or broken hairs, the brushes will certainly fall a lot of hairs.
Although the combing can remove some short hairs, it can not remove all short and broken hairs. That is why it is normal to have several hairs falling at the beginning.
Secondly, during bundling up the hairs with string, as good animal hairs are very soft and thin, if too tight, the hairs will be broken; if too loose, it will affect the glue affect. Therefore, too tight or too loose will both cause hair falling. Also, to save time and cost, some low-grade makeup brushes will cancel such process, which will certainly cause hairs falling.
Finally, gluing is one of the most important processes for hair falling. The glue should be a kind of special glue, with waterproof and can withstand high temperature. Otherwise, the glue will dissolve after watering, and then the makeup brushes will fall buckets of hairs. Also, during washing brushes, if the glue can not sustain high temperature, the makeup brushes will also fall a lot of hairs if the water is a little hot.

The brushes with critical or major defect must be returned to the makeup brush manufacturer for reproduction; the makeup brushes with minor defect can be returned to the manufacturer for rework, or customers can improve or solve the problem at their own location if possible.

Functional Test of makeup brushes

After receiving the makeup brushes from the manufacturer, most customers will have their own Incoming Inspection system to check if the makeup brushes are qualified. Some customers only have quick and rough checking on the appearance or touching, while some have strict and detailed inspection and test process.

 

The following is the normal tests during customers’ incoming inspection.

 

 

All above testing will be done by customers; all of our quotation will not include any testing fee. If customers would like us to do the test, it is also ok, we will inquiry the test fee from our local testing institute and then customers pay the test fee directly to the testing institute or to us.

Makeup brushes for low-end market

We understand that not all people can afford top grade makeup brushes; some will prefer the cheapest brushes, as long as it can apply cosmetics.

So, as a makeup brush factory, to meet customers’ requirements, we manufacture not only high grade makeup brushes, but also low grade makeup brushes, so that our customers can have many options during custom makeup brushes.

For high grade makeup brushes, we have described a lot about all details before; here we would like to emphasize the low grade makeup brushes.

First is the material: the hair of low grade makeup brushes is usually low grade goat hair and pony hair. The low grade goat hair includes: SQ goat hair, 2# goat hair and 10# goat hair, the most common is the SQ goat hair as it is the cheapest. For the customers who just need cheapest price, SQ goat hair is the best choice. Pony hair is usually used on eyeshadow brushes, as it is softer than SQ goat hair and will not hurt eye skin. 2# and 10# goat hair are usually used on KABUKI brushes as they are better than SQ goat hair. To save cost, the ferrule material of low grade makeup brushes is aluminum, and the handle is plastic or low grade wood.

Second is the package: the low grade makeup brushes usually have no brush bag, or only has low grade brush bag. They are usually packed on PVC bag or OPP bag which is very cheap.

Third is the MOQ: Due to the low cost, the MOQ of the low grade makeup brushes are higher than high grade brushes. For large brushes, the MOQ is usually 2000pcs, for mini brushes, the MOQ is usually 10K pcs. Therefore, the customers who require low grade brushes must have large demand; otherwise, no makeup brush manufacturers will accept the order to produce these low grade brushes.

Forth is the margin: due to the low cost, makeup brush suppliers have low margin on each low grade brush. For example, the unit price of a brush is USD0.2, even the factory or suppliers have 20% margin, they can only have USD0.04 on each brush, even the order quantity is 10Kpcs, the total profit they can get is USD400.0, that is the reason why most makeup brush suppliers do not willing to accept orders of low grade brushes.

Also, the low grade brushes also have difference on quality. Customers’ requirements on the size/brightness/color/luster of ferrule and handle will also affect the brush price. So it is best if customers can let us know their target price.

how to QC our makeup brushes

While buying makeup brushes, customers will not only care price but also the brush quality, if with bad quality or bad falling hair problems, it will certainly hurt customer business, so the customers may never consider buying brushes again from this makeup brush manufacturer or supplier.

Since makeup brush is a manual work, no machine to control the quality, so generally the most important person is the QC Inspector, but in our factory, to ensure the product quality, we also require the Production Supervisor and the salesman to check and control the quality together with the QC inspector.

For new orders to custom makeup brushes, we will confirm all quality requirements with customers; then make a working instruction according to customer requirements and order, and then deliver the working instruction to the workers and require them to follow the instruction; the production supervisor will inspect the workers during manufacturing; the QC inspector will check if the finished brushes are qualified, and the salesman will recheck and confirm if the brushes meet order requirements.

Single makeup brush quality can not represent the large quantity

Makeup brush is a manual work, it is not like the products made by machines which are easier to control the batch quality.

 

Human is not like machine which can be set in one status to make the same products. It is known that for machines, the same batch will certainly have the same quality, but it is not the case of makeup brush quality due to the human factor during makeup brush production.

 

For makeup brush factory, it is very easy to manufacture a perfect makeup brush; it may be also easy to manufacture 100 or 1000pcs with good quality, but what about 100Kpcs or even more? The 100Kpcs may be manufactured by tens or hundreds workers, and each one may produce different quality makeup brushes at different status. So in makeup brush production there is no so called the same batch, each makeup brush may vary in quality.

 

So, if you want to custom makeup brushes from a makeup brush factory, do not ask them to offer you the makeup brushes with totally the same quality, it will show your unprofessional and may make you loose in negotiation, and no makeup brush factory will give you such promise, even if they agree, they are giving impossible promise.

the unqualified sponge applicators

As a makeup brush manufacturer, it is to common get imperfect products. Some imperfect items may be considered ok, while some will failed the inspection. Therefore, there must have a standard to judge what kind of imperfect products is ok, and what kind is not ok.

 

For sponge applicators, generally, there are the following 4 failure phenomena.

2.       The sponge shape is not good, or not fitted well according to the instruction

Step 6: Test the bacterial and mould fungi content.

To return makeup brushes

Today, our inspector came to me angrily; she showed me the sponge applicators returned from one customer. I was surprised by the deformity sponge applicators.

 

All the sponge applicators are melt together, it is hard to separate them by hand, and the handles are also melt. The inspector was very angry about such sponge applicators are returned to us.

 

Obviously, it is not our quality problem, because our working condition is not so hot, in fact not hot at all. So, it should be the customer’s problem. But they returned the products and required replacements.

 

I believe no makeup brush manufacturer can accept such returns, if it is really our quality problem; we will certainly replace them, however, if the problem is caused at customer side, it is unreasonable for us to afford such lost.

 

Therefore, we should claim that: if you would like to return our makeup brushes or sponge applicators, please firstly contact us and let us know the reason, also send us the defects pictures, we will check and advise if returns are acceptable; if we confirm the returns, we will send you an RMA# for track, only after you get the RMA#, you can return the makeup brushes or sponge applicators, after getting your returns, we will send you the replacements ASAP.

We should learn from Korean and Japanese makeup brush factories

Although many Chinese makeup brush manufacturers somewhat dislike Korean and Japanese companies, we are indeed fall behind them in business. Japanese and Korean are excellent nationalities; they always require perfect goods and never allow “almost good” products. While most Chinese makeup brush companies often say “almost” during working and manufacturing.

 

What does “almost” mean? The Korean and Japanese can not understand, and strongly dislike the word. That is the most important reason that many customers prefer to buy makeup brushes from them despite of their price much higher than Chinese makeup brush supplier. About the makeup brush lose bristles

It is normal for new makeup brushes to lose few bristles, because the bristles are thin, and may break during production and initial usage. After using two or three times, good makeup brushes will no longer lose bristles.

None makeup brushes will not lose any bristles. It is normal to lose one or two bristles. Most makeup brushes will not lose bristle after cleaning.

To judge if the makeup brush will lose bristle, it is not comb the hair by hand but sweep the makeup brush on back of hand, if no bristle lost, it can prove that the makeup brush will not lose bristle. Please note that it is done after cleaning. During production, there may be dying processing, some float hair may be left, and during transportation, the makeup brushes may have some smell, so for new makeup brushes, before using, please clean them first. After cleaning one or two times, the float hairs will not exist.
