Brush hairs in moist weather

It is known that natural hairs will become wet in moist weather, while the finished makeup brushes should be in fluffy appearance, so it will be the best if there is no rainy day during makeup brush production. However, no one can control the weather, raining is the normal situation during makeup brush production, so the hairs often become wet, then how the makeup brush factory should do to keep the fluffy appearance of the makeup brushes?

If the delivery time is not so urgent and since the hairs will restore to fluffy in dry weather, the makeup brush factory can wait for sunny day to dry the hairs, and then pack and ship the makeup brushes once the hairs are dry.

If the delivery time is urgent, and it is always rainy during production, to avoid of shipment delay, the makeup brush manufacturer will add some powders into hairs during production. It is known that powders can absorb moist to keep the hairs dry. Since the makeup brushes are used to apply powders, it will be no problem if some powders leave in the brushes. Anyway, the makeup brush manufacturer will always remove/ shake off the powders from the makeup brushes before packing. If customers find some powder remains after unpacking, they can also shake off the powders by themselves. The method is very simple, just like shaking off the dust from our clothes.

If customers do not want powders during makeup brush production, they should state that they can leave enough time for the makeup brush factory to wait for sunny day, or they can accept the makeup brushes which are not so fluffy after unpacking, as the brushes will restore to fluffy in dry weather, the customers/users can dry the brushes at their location.

Process to attach hairs to brushes

Besides normal makeup brushes, some users may like another kind of makeup brushes which can allow powder to flow through. That means the brush hairs are attached to the powder containers, and the powders can automatically come out through the holes in the hairs bunch, then users can apply the powder onto their faces or bodies.

 

The process to produce such brushes is also different from normal makeup brushes. The normal brush handle will be replaced by powder container which is usually plastics and is designed by customers. The makeup brush factory only needs to attach the bristles according to the powder container. Here we would like to mainly introduce our process to attach bristles:

 

1) The makeup brush factory will firstly make a cup-shape mold, then shape bristles in the mold to get expected bristle shape

2) Wrap the shaped bristles with paper, insert into aluminum ferrule and glue bristles together;

3) Extract the bristles from aluminum ferrule after the glue is dried

4) Punch several holes to allow powder to flow through it

5) insert the bristles into powder container, add thinner (banana oil) to dilute the glue on the bristles, then the glue will stick the bristles to the powder container (after adding thinner, the glue will dissolve, thin and spread around, then will come to the joint area with powder container, so the bristles will stick with powder container after the glue is dried), so the bristles to flow powder will be finished.

 

Therefore, no matter how customers will design their handle, it will be no problem for the makeup brush manufacturer to attach bristles to the handles.

 

If customers would like the makeup brush manufacturer to source the factory for their handle-powder container, it is also ok as long as customers offer detailed design and drawing. We will always try best to meet customers’ every requirements.

Prototype for makeup brush

Some customers want to design a very special makeup brush to attract users, while there is great uncertainty as to whether the new design will actually do what is desired. New designs often have unexpected problems. Therefore, a prototype is often used to allow customers to confirm performance and consumer interest before starting production of the makeup brush. Then, customers or their engineers will use their experience to tailor the prototype according to the specific unknowns still present in the intended design.

Some customers will make the prototype by themselves, and then send to the makeup brush manufacturers for their checking; while some may prefer the makeup brush manufacturers to do the prototype for them, they just need to send detailed drawings to the manufacturers and pay for the prototypes, and after the prototypes being finished, the manufacturers send the prototype to customers for confirmation. Since prototype is only an early sample or model built to test the design, if customers do not like the prototypes, they can modify the design based on analysis of the prototype.

According to prototyping ways, the prototype can be divided into manual prototype, SLA/SLS prototype and CNC prototype; according to materials, the prototype can be divided into plastic prototype, silica gel prototype and metal prototype.

For makeup brush, CNC prototyping is the most common way to do the prototype, and the material is usually plastic. Anyway, it depends on customers’ exact requirement.

Plastic handle of makeup brushes

It is known that wooden handle and plastic handle are the most common handle material for makeup brushes. Most users will prefer wooden handle for their daily usage, while due to its limit on the shape, wooden handle are not always the preference for all customers. Some customers want to custom makeup brushes with their own style; they aim to show a unique makeup brush to the users, so they cudgel their brains on the brush shape.

Plastics, thanks for their property, can be molded to various shapes to meet customers’ requirements on the handle shape. Most plastic handle shape will be achieved by injection molding, while the molding fee is very expensive, so if the order quantity is not so huge, plastic handle may not be a wise choice.

If customers would like to have plastic handles, they should send their design/drawing to the makeup brush manufacturers. Not like wooden handle which just needs the diameter and length, plastic handle needs detailed size of each part, so that the makeup brush manufacturers can check and evaluate the molding fee and other cost. Therefore, a detailed drawing is essential, 3D drawing will be the best, if no 3D drawing, 2D drawing with detailed size on each part will be also ok.

After calculating the exact cost, the makeup brush factory will quote customers in detail, including the molding fee, the unit price on the makeup brush etc. After paying the molding fee, customers will have the ownership on the mold; they can decide to leave the mold on the brush factory for future orders or to ship the mold to themselves. The brush factory has no right to handle the mold.

As professional makeup brush manufacturers, we can meet customers’ requirements on the brush handles as long as customers offer their detailed requirements, no matter they need plastic handle or wooden handle.

Sample request

Before ordering any brush, some customers will request samples from the makeup brush manufacturers to check the brush quality or to finalize which brushes are exactly the ones they want to order. Therefore, if the customers have not any target or ideas on the needed brushes, they will usually require samples as many as they can. Some even require more than 30 different brush types. However, most of them will be scared away after knowing sample fees from the makeup brush manufacturer. Most of them can not believe they need to pay so much for only several samples. For example, USD100.0 for 2 samples, USD500 for 20 samples etc.

 

The reason is most makeup brush manufacturers will not have brush samples in stock, even if these makeup brushes are listed in their price list. The brushes in the price list are only to show customers they once produce these brushes for some customers but not mean the stock brushes. Usually, the makeup brush factory orders material according to customers’ order quantity to produce the brushes, so even if there will be some remaining or inventory, they are spare parts for future checking.

 

So if customers request samples, the makeup brush manufacturers have to produce new samples, and to produce these samples, they have to order different material for hair/ferrule/handle, do different color painting etc for only few samples, so the cost must be very high.

 

However, some customers who are just entering into the makeup brush industry do not know this situation; they believe it is really daylight robbery to quote USD500 for 20 samples. Although we have explained this situation to every customer, they just do not believe our sincerity. But we get sample request every day, it is impossible to always afford such high cost by ourselves since customers have not any finalized order.

 

Communication ways on different steps

No matter what kind of products, customers and suppliers always need communication to reach agreement and to push the project moving forward. Everybody knows some communication skills more or less; here I would like to say the communication ways on different steps during custom makeup brushes.

 

For the customers who would like to custom makeup brushes with complex and special design, it is better to communicate via email at the beginning. As it is hard to clearly express the design on the phone, also due to the language limit of both sides, it may cause misunderstanding on the phone. While by email, both sides will have enough time to read and understand the meaning. So at the beginning, customers and suppliers should communicate by email.

 

Once both sides reach agreement on the design, the makeup brush manufacturers will need to quote according to the design; both sides need to discuss on the delivery time and payment terms etc. At this step, emails will also be better than phone. As emails are traceable once if any side forget the terms, and emails can also be a proof if any conflict arise. Anyway, if any side would like to move quicker, it is great to set up a call to discuss details. The price, delivery time and payment terms can all be discussed on the phone to push the ball roll quirkier. But all discussion results on the phone should be finalized and confirmed by both sides via email in case of any misunderstanding or conflict.

 

Once the production is finished, manufacturers can call or email customers to arrange the shipment. After the shipment is sent out, it will be great if manufacturers can call or email customers to notify the related information or tracking number. Once customers receive the shipment, a call or email will be essential to notify such receiving.

 

If customers find any quality problem with guarantee period and would like to resolve such problem quickly, call the manufacturers to notify such problem is good, but a written email should also be followed.

 

Now emails have play an important role in international business, for anything urgent, it is ok to set up a call, but everything that needs confirmation or finalization should be via email or written letters.

The hair thickness of makeup brushes

For custom makeup brushes, customers usually send us the brushes they would like to order and require us to exact copy the brushes.

 

It is easy to check if the color is the same as original brushes; if the logo is the same as original; if handle length/thickness, ferrule length/thickness and hair length is the same… all of the above can be judged by visual observations. While some can not, for example, customers can not judge if the hair material is the same as original, they have to touch and feel the hairs to check the softness etc. However, few customers can recognize the exact hair material just through feeling and touching.

 

Hairs are the most difficult during customers’ inspection, besides the hair material, hair thickness is also very difficult to evaluate. Some customers believe that they can judge the hair thickness by holding the hairs. But as professional makeup brush manufacturer, we know that judgment on hair thickness is more difficult than hair material.

 

Firstly, most customers just evaluate the thickness by hands/eyes which can not show the exact hair thickness unless the difference is very obvious. The makeup brush factory usually inspects the hair thickness by the diameter of the ferrule that connects the hairs, but some brushes are fluffy while some are dense. In this case, if customers judge by shape, the brushes are the same, but if judge by holding the brushes, they will feel the obvious difference.

 

Secondly, the hair material will also affect the hair thickness. Some customers send us their existing brushes to us but they do not like their hair material, so they require us to change to a better hair material without any size change. We make samples exactly according to their size (same ferrule diameter, same density), but they insist that our samples are not as thick as their original brushes. In fact, that is because our hair material is much better and softer than their brushes, so even if with the same hair amount, our brushes may not feel so thick. The experienced customers and manufacturers will know that better hairs are softer and slimmer than worse hairs.

 

We really hope that our customers can judge from different aspects during evaluating our samples, after all, personal feeling is not so accurate, although we will always try our best to meet customers’ every requirement, it is really hard for us to produce makeup brushes just according to customers’ personal feeling.
