Sample evaluation/checking is a essential step during custom makeup brushes. By sample evaluation, customers can check if the makeup brush manufacturers can meet their quality requirement, and if the brush is exactly what they need.

 

Some customers would like to place order first and then require the makeup brush factory to send samples for confirmation before mass production. In this case, the sample is free, and the shipping charge is paid by customers. If customers are not satisfied with the samples quality, as a professional makeup brush manufacturer, we will make new samples until the customers are satisfied with everything. In this condition, we will afford all related fee to make new samples, including the shipping charge by ourselves. As it is really our responsibility to offer satisfied samples to customers before mass production.

 

While some customers prefer paying samples first, and will not place orders until they get satisfied samples. So they firstly pay USD180 for example to require customers to send them samples. The USD180.0 may also include the shipping charge to their office. If they are not satisfied with the samples due to the color, quality, logo etc, they may be not willing to place orders to us. To retain the customers, we will offer customers a proposal that we can make new samples for them and afford all related cost including the shipping charge to customers.

 

In fact, few customers will be satisfied with the first sample, as the word description may not so exact, and the makeup brush factory may have some misunderstanding on customers’ requirements, so it is usual that the first samples are not perfect. on this occasion, customers should firstly contact the factory and point out the problem of the samples, and then require the factory to offer new samples.

 

Please do not hastily give up once getting the unsatisfied samples, after all, you have paid some money for the samples, it is a pity to give up or transfer to another factory at this very beginning. Please help to communicate with us once you are not satisfied with our samples, we will do everything we can do to offer you satisfied samples.

 

How to get samples

At the beginning of entering into the makeup brush industry, most customers do not know what kind of brushes they need, and how to distinguish different material or quality. Therefore, to be more professional in this area and to ensure that they will excellently communicate with the makeup brush manufacturers, some customers would like to check samples first.

To get samples, some may try to get them from the brush manufacturers. However, few manufacturers will offer free samples now, and even if some manufacturers can offer free samples, they will require customers to afford the shipping charge, which may be not acceptable for some customers. Although the cost to get samples through this way is high, the customers can get enough information to fully understand the makeup brush quality and material, as the manufacturers will list exact material of each part and let customers feel the difference by themselves.

To save the cost, some customers will choose to buy testable samples from local supplier, for example from EBay, which will have lower cost since the shipping charge is very low. However, customers may not get enough information from these samples from online. As most online suppliers will list the exact material of the makeup brushes, for example, for hair material, they may just indicate goat hair instead of exact hair grade. Since the goat hair has more than 20 grades, customers may be confused without knowing the exact material. If they test a sample with goat hair which is actually ZGF goat hair and like it very much, then they contact the makeup brush factory for quotation. However, they only say it is goat hair, manufacturers can not quote accordingly to such information, unless the customers can send the samples to them, which will cause high shipping charge.

Therefore, to save time and cost, if customers want to get some samples for testing and better understand brush quality and material, it is better to get the samples directly from the manufacturers.

Why we need reserved samples for each product？

No matter samples or batch shipment, we should keep reserved samples for each shipment.

 

For samples, if customers would like to have any change on the samples, we can check the reserved samples and do the related modification accordingly. If we send customers samples many times with different versions, we should keep all versions especially the final version, also mark all versions with labels to indicate each change and difference between different versions; if customers confirm the samples and would like to place order, we can arrange the production according to the reserved samples.

 

For batch shipment, we also need to keep reserved samples. If customers are satisfied with our makeup brushes, and would like to place further orders, we can prepare the production according to the reserved samples; if customers have any dissatisfaction on the makeup brushes after getting the shipment, we can immediately check if it is the truth through the reserved samples in stock; if the brushes in our stock are in good condition, then we should send the pictures of our reserved samples and require customers to provide related evidence of such defects. In this way, we will be able to provide enough proof on our brush quality in case of any dispute.

Reserved samples can ensure the makeup brush manufacturers to supply required brushes, and can avoid of unnecessary dispute.

 

 

About sample confirmation

Sample confirmation is a very important step during custom makeup brushes. Since there is no standard on the size/material/color of makeup brushes, the makeup brush factory produces brushes completely accord to customer’s description, no one can ensure the produced brushes are 100% meet customer’s requirements. Therefore, the sample confirmation before mass production is very essential.

If customers offer the prototypes of the brushes they need, the makeup brush factory should exact copy the prototypes including the logo; if customers have no prototypes but only pictures plus description, the makeup brush factory should also try best to send customers the exact brushes.

After getting samples, customers should check ASAP to confirm if the brushes are ok for them. If not, they should immediately tell the makeup brush manufacturer: why not ok? Which part is not ok? How they want the brushes to be? So that the manufacturer can make new samples for confirmation; if ok, they should understand that once they give their confirmation, they should not require any change on the brushes during the mass production, and they would like to get bulk brushes exactly the same as samples.

For the makeup brush manufacturer, once getting customers’ confirmation on samples, they should ensure the bulk brushes should have the same quality and appearance as the samples. If the bulk brushes are found to be inferior to samples, the customers have the right to cancel the order; it is ok if the bulk brushes are in better quality than samples, but the appearance should have no any change. However, since samples are sent to customers to confirm bulk brushes, it is the best that the bulk brushes are exactly the same as samples, otherwise, it may arise some dispute even if the bulk brushes’ quality is better than samples.

Prototype for makeup brush

Some customers want to design a very special makeup brush to attract users, while there is great uncertainty as to whether the new design will actually do what is desired. New designs often have unexpected problems. Therefore, a prototype is often used to allow customers to confirm performance and consumer interest before starting production of the makeup brush. Then, customers or their engineers will use their experience to tailor the prototype according to the specific unknowns still present in the intended design.

Some customers will make the prototype by themselves, and then send to the makeup brush manufacturers for their checking; while some may prefer the makeup brush manufacturers to do the prototype for them, they just need to send detailed drawings to the manufacturers and pay for the prototypes, and after the prototypes being finished, the manufacturers send the prototype to customers for confirmation. Since prototype is only an early sample or model built to test the design, if customers do not like the prototypes, they can modify the design based on analysis of the prototype.

According to prototyping ways, the prototype can be divided into manual prototype, SLA/SLS prototype and CNC prototype; according to materials, the prototype can be divided into plastic prototype, silica gel prototype and metal prototype.

For makeup brush, CNC prototyping is the most common way to do the prototype, and the material is usually plastic. Anyway, it depends on customers’ exact requirement.

Sample request

Before ordering any brush, some customers will request samples from the makeup brush manufacturers to check the brush quality or to finalize which brushes are exactly the ones they want to order. Therefore, if the customers have not any target or ideas on the needed brushes, they will usually require samples as many as they can. Some even require more than 30 different brush types. However, most of them will be scared away after knowing sample fees from the makeup brush manufacturer. Most of them can not believe they need to pay so much for only several samples. For example, USD100.0 for 2 samples, USD500 for 20 samples etc.

 

The reason is most makeup brush manufacturers will not have brush samples in stock, even if these makeup brushes are listed in their price list. The brushes in the price list are only to show customers they once produce these brushes for some customers but not mean the stock brushes. Usually, the makeup brush factory orders material according to customers’ order quantity to produce the brushes, so even if there will be some remaining or inventory, they are spare parts for future checking.

 

So if customers request samples, the makeup brush manufacturers have to produce new samples, and to produce these samples, they have to order different material for hair/ferrule/handle, do different color painting etc for only few samples, so the cost must be very high.

 

However, some customers who are just entering into the makeup brush industry do not know this situation; they believe it is really daylight robbery to quote USD500 for 20 samples. Although we have explained this situation to every customer, they just do not believe our sincerity. But we get sample request every day, it is impossible to always afford such high cost by ourselves since customers have not any finalized order.

 

About refund of the sample fee

When customizing makeup brushes, customers usually will require samples before batch order. Since they can not guarantee that they will finally place orders, the makeup brush manufacturers will charge sample fees and promise that the sample fee will be refunded to customers after receiving orders.

 

However, the precondition of the refund is the order quantity should meet the MOQ requirement. For example, our MOQ is 500pcs each. We clarify this requirement to customers at the very beginning, and they show no objection and require samples at first with USD100.0. While after confirming samples, they say they can only order 300pcs each. Normally we will not accept so few quantities, while after long time negotiation and considering it is the first cooperation, we finally agree with 300pcs each. But at this situation, we will not refund the sample fee.

 

Also, we may not refund the sample fee if any condition changes. For example, payment terms changes from 100% prepay to 20% prepay; the unit price reduces from USD10.0 to USD9.5 etc.

 

Anyway, if all conditions are kept as original, we will certainly fulfill our promise. Sometimes, customers forget the sample fee they have paid, we always remind them to deduct the sample fee from the payment after getting their orders. We are professional and reliable makeup brush factory, our aim is to establish long term cooperation with customers instead of destroy our fames by so few sample fee. While to get the refund of sample fee, customers also need to keep all their original conditions.

proper package for makeup brush samples

Today, we got some makeup brush samples from an international customer, there were more than 10pcs brushes and were directly put into the FEDEX envelop. After opening envelop and carefully checking the brushes, we found that a powder brush was broken. Maybe it had been broken before shipment instead of the damage during shipment. Whatever, we have sent the pictures of the broken brushes to customer to ensure if it is broken during shipment.

However, no matter it is shipment damage, customers and suppliers should be very careful about the package even if just for samples. During custom makeup brushes, the customers may need to send samples to the manufacturers for quotation, and manufacturers need to send samples/prototypes back to customers for confirmation. They usually use FEDEX/DHL/UPS to deliver the samples, and these express companies will offer free envelop/pack which is very convenient. Therefore, if the makeup brush samples are not too much, most will put the samples into envelop/pack.

Since the samples are small and in few quantity, it is ok to put them into envelop or pack, just be sure that they will not be damaged during shipment. A good way is to put the samples into bubble wrap and then put into envelop, which will prevent the brushes from being cracked during shipment. Some express companies also offer bubble envelops, which will be the best for brush sample delivery.

If without bubble wrap or bubble envelop, do not put the brushes directly into envelop, it is best to put the samples into carton package which can also prevent shipment damage.

The importance of brush samples

If you would like to custom makeup brushes, you must have clear ideas on the design, color, size, material etc in your mind, and certainly you will express such ideas to your makeup brush factory, while sometimes verbal description do have misunderstanding, so you may not be able to get the exact brushes you want! To avoid such situation, you must require sample confirmation first from the factory. That is, the factory should firstly make some samples according to your detailed requirements during communication, and only after getting your confirmation, the factory can do the mass production. If you have placed orders to the factory, they usually will not charge sample fees; while if no orders, they will charge some sample fees, as making samples is much difficult and expensive than mass production, so usually they will not make samples for you free if having no orders. But please remember to require them to refund such fee back to you if you place orders to them in future.

That is, in the situation of custom makeup brushes, since customer really has no real sample in hand, it is the factory or supplier who should offer samples for confirmation.

While if you have taken a fancy to a certain type of brushes, and would like to get exact copy from the makeup brush manufacturer, it will be best if you can send samples to the manufacturer. For example, if you like a Sigma brush very much and would like to buy the same brush just with different logo directly from the manufacturer at much lower price, you should firstly buy/source the brush from sigma and then send the brush to the manufacturer for exact copy. Of course, you may have many pictures for the brushes, but pictures can not represent real object, so it will save a lot of time if you can offer real samples, otherwise, the manufacturer have to make samples first and then send to you for confirmation, that will waste a lot of time!

That is, in the situation of buying existing makeup brushes, to save time and money, it is the customers who should offer samples to manufacturer.

In a word, no matter custom makeup brushes or existing brushes, samples are essential before mass production.

About logo on brush samples

We all know that the reason to custom makeup brushes is to promote brands, so most customers will require logo printing on the brush handles or bags or both.

While before ordering large quantity, customers usually require makeup brush samples for their evaluation on quantity etc, and the makeup brush manufacturer usually sends them samples without logo. Some customers can not understand this, per their opinion, quality evaluation should also include the logo, if not, how can the makeup brush factory ensure that the logo can be on the right place in the right way?

The reason is: to print logo on handles or bags, it needs typesetting which just like a mould, and the typesetting fee itself is about USD100.0 which customers only need to pay one time; and since the samples are for quality evaluation, if customers are not satisfied with the samples and do not want to place orders, the typesetting fee is really a pay for a dead horse.

Also, it is totally unnecessary to worry about the logo printing. Once the samples pass the evaluation and customers plan to place orders, the makeup brush manufacturer will ask for the logo documents from the customers, the logo documents should clarify the logo place and color etc in detail. Any professional makeup brush factory will certainly have no problem on the logo printing.

Therefore, if you would like to custom makeup brushes, and require makeup brush samples from the suppliers, you should foresee and understand that there should no logo on the makeup brushes or bags.

Why we charge samples

Some customers may ask: why you charge for some samples and some not? What is your standard? Since you are a makeup brush factory, why not afford this cost by yourselves to win more customers?

 

Well, it depends on the sample cost, if the sample cost is very high, we have to charge samples, for example customers would like to custom makeup brushes with tricolor nylon, copper ferrule and wooden handle. First, its raw material: tricolor nylon, copper and wooden handle is expensive; second we need to do processing on the material, we need to dye bristles and every time we have to dye 2KG bristles at least; also we need to do the painting and wooden handle, which will waste a lot of raw material. If no following orders, it is really a great burden to us since the margin of makeup brush is so low. Therefore, we hope customers pay the samples first, and if you place orders to us in future, we will refund this cost to you to show our sincerity.

 

If you need samples of our existing makeup brushes, if the sample quantity is small, we can offer free samples; also if you need mini makeup brush samples, sometimes we also not charge samples. Also, if you have placed the order, and need samples from us for confirmation, the samples are also free

 

To win more business and have more orders, if we can afford the sample fee, we will certainly not charge it from customers, the reason we charge it is really because it is hard for us to afford. The sample fee

Usually, to show our sincerity to establish relationship with worldwide customers, we will not charge samples as long as we can afford. Therefore, for small makeup brushes, we will offer free samples for customer evaluation; the customers just need to pay the freight charge.

 

However, for the makeup brush sets which may include more than 10 high-grade makeup brushes, we have to charge samples, as the cost of each such makeup brush set may reach 200RMB or even more if customers have higher demands on material. It is hard for us to afford such cost since the margin of makeup brushes is so low.
