Make Up Application

Foundation: Foundation helps to protect your facial skin and serves as a base for the rest of your make up. Choose a natural chemical free foundation shade that matches the tone of the skin on your neck. This will keep you from having a “mask-like” appearance when your foundation is applied. Apply foundation by placing a small amount of the product on your fingertip and using gentle outward and upward strokes to blend it into your skin. Begin with one area of the face at a time, but be sure to thoroughly blend the foundation, especially around the jaw line and hair line.
Blush: The color and intensity of your blush will determine the look of the rest of your makeup, so it is the first place that you should begin to add color to your face. For the most pulled together look, you should use cream rouge as well as a powder blush. The cream rouge will help to brighten and define your face, and the powder blush gives your cheeks a natural finish.
To apply the cream rouge, look straight into the mirror and find the top ridge of your cheekbone. Place a small amount of rouge on this edge of the cheek bone, directly below the outer corner of the eyelid. Next, find the lower edge of your cheekbone and apply a small dot of rouge to the spot on this edge, just below your pupil. Wipe away the excess rouge from your fingertips, and gently blend the rouge in an outward motion towards your ears. If the color is too intense, gently wipe away the excess.
To apply the powder blush, gently dip a blush brush into the blush and shake off the excess. Begin applying the product in the hollow of the cheek and continue blending outward towards the ears. As a general rule of thumb, blush should never be closer than two finger widths away from your nose.
Eyebrow Pencil: An eyebrow pencil can help to add shape, fullness, and definition to your eyebrows. To apply eye brow pencil, use light strokes to fill in the natural area of your eyebrow, where the hairs may be sparse or spread out. Be sure to comb your eye brows after applying the eyebrow pencil to smooth out the brow and blend the pencil strokes.
Eye Shadow: Eye shadow adds color, drama, and intensity to your eyes. It can also be used to correct flaws such as improperly spaced eyes, or eyes that are not precisely the same size. There is a great deal of variation in the application of eye shadow. Experiment with different shades and colors to see what works best for use. As a general rule of thumb: use lighter shades on the upper portion of the eye lids and darker shades on the lower portion, below the line of the crease.
Eye Liner: Eye liner can be used to add definition to the eyes. Traditional eye liner comes in either black or brown shades. Eye defining pencils, on the other hand, will come in a variety of colors. Eye liner can be used on both the upper and lower lids. Whereas, eye defining pencils should only be used on the lower lid. Apply eye liner or eye defining pencil with a light stroke that moves evenly over the lid from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner. Blend the line with a Q-tip to avoid the appearance of a harsh line.
Mascara: Mascara thickens the lashes and gives them a fuller appearance. Apply mascara to the lashes evenly, starting at the base and working your way out to the lash tips. Follow up by combing the lashes while they are still wet with a lash brush to separate them and remove any mascara clumps. If necessary, repeat the procedure to apply a second coat of mascara.
Lip Liner: Lip liner helps to define the shape of the lips and keeps your lip color from bleeding, or “straying”. Apply lip liner by using a firm stroke and following the natural contours of the lips. Begin at the center of your upper lip and draw a line to the outer corner of your lip. Repeat this process on the other side of the upper lip. For the lower lip, begin on one corner, and use one smooth line to outline the lip to the other corner. Use a lip liner brush or a cotton swab to blend this line and reduce the appearance of a harsh stroke.
Lip Color: Lip color enhances the beauty of your lips and completes your make up look. Apply lip color with a lip brush. Begin by relaxing your mouth and using the lip brush to fill in the lips with color. On the upper lip, apply the color from the outer edge to the corner of the lip, and repeat on the other side. For the bottom lip, begin at one corner of the mouth and blend inward, repeating this procedure at the other corner. Blend the lip color into the lip liner, but be careful not to extend beyond that line. When the lips are completely filled in, open the mouth and blend the lip color into the corners of the mouth to avoid harsh lines and creases.
Lip Gloss: Lip gloss is an optional step for adding extra polish and shine to your lips. To apply lip gloss, gently dot the lip gloss wand in the center of your lower lip and gently smear your lips together. The natural movement of your lips will help to evenly distribute the gloss
