If I were stranded on a desert island,

The only survival choices left me are Brad Pitt and makeup brushes,

I love Brad Pitt so much, but I had to choose makeup brushes,

Because I want to look good when found by the rescue team! “

 

This is from MAC’s global artistic director NADINE LUKE who is to promote the new MAC makeup brushes.

 

This great advertisement push me stand in front of MAC counter, clearly look through all the makeup brushes. However I have been lazy for too long to recognize their function , eyeshadow brush , blush brush , lipstick brush and so on ,I usually only use liquid foundation and blush, and only know the difference in bristle quantity, length and shape, or sometimes I will consider if the makeup brushes are made of pony hair or something else.

 

Once I was crazy for a man Hong Kong makeup artist named Joseph, seeing that he coolly took various makeup brushes from a black makeup bags, and then applying in my face for several minutes, then I look much better. After that I impetuously buy a bunch of makeup including blush, lip gloss, eye shadow, eyeliner, powder, and of course a full set of makeup brushes (and buy the most expensive BB makeup brushes (Joseph is the makeup artist of BB). If can not find in China, I will ask friends to buy from Hong Kong, however, now all cosmetics and makeup brushes have been staying in my table for a long time.

 

My crazy to makeup only lasted six months, that time I got up early every day and use makeup brushes to makeup for half an hour. However, finally I give up.

Now I imagine that if I face the same choice, which should I choose? Brad Pitt or makeup brushes? I believe my answer will be makeup brushes, but with different reason.

As if I can not be beautiful in front of Brad Pitt, I would rather he never appear in front of me.

So I give up Brad Pitt and choose makeup brushes.

Natural makeup brushes

Natural brushes are made from a variety of natural hair such as sable, squirrel, pony hair, goat and badger.  Due to their “scaled” hairs, they hold powders and pigments best.  They are usually more costly, but looked after well, will last for a long time whilst being pleasing to use and on the skin.

Badger hair brushes

Badger brushes appear bushy as the hair is conic shaped with a thick belly near the tip and thin near the root. Actual badger hair is light grey with a dark brown-black stripe through the centre and is primarily used in making blenders. Badger brushes come from various parts of the world and are more readily available than most animal hair, although the quality varies greatly. Badger hair is thickest at the point, and relatively thin at the root, so it has a distinctive "bushy" appearance.  Badger hair is rather stiff and is taken from the back of the animal and can be as long as four inches. Commonly, badger-hair brushes are found in a fan shape or a bushy round shape with a flat top called a "badger blender."

Camel brushes

A "camel" brush is not made of camel hair but is a trade name for soft-haired brushes made for a mix of hair types such as pony, squirrel, goat and/or pony.  Camel hair mixes most commonly used in less expensive makeup brush and received their name from "Mr. Camel", who invented them. Actual camel hair is too woolly for brushes and they range greatly in softness, quality and cost.

Pony hair brushes

Pony hair comes from the mane of young horses and is very fine and soft. These are the typical hair used in the traditional makeup brush. Natural tips are used in better brushes and the rest of the hair is cut into lengths and used in cheaper brushes. It is strong, slightly coarse, and resilient and with the exception of sheep hair, is the most absorbent. Pony hair doesnt hold its shape well, nor does it point. It is used as a filler to reduce the price of a brush. Horse or pony hair is most commonly used in inexpensive school grade brushes or makeup brushes.

Red sable brushes

Often called red sable because of its reddish-brown colour. This soft brush hair comes from the tail of the Asiatic weasel, a type of marten. Golden red in colour, the hairs are not as fine or springy as Kolinsky sable and are only half as expensive. It is generally conceded to be the best material for precise layering of color, especially for creation of specific gradations due to its strength, spring and ability to retain its shape ("snap").  It holds a very fine point or edge for precise application that is favored by professional makeup artists around the world.  This is considered a professional grade of hair, and if properly cared for, Kolinsky sable brushes will last for many years.

Goat hair brushes

Goat hair is one of the coarsest hair used in makeup brushes and is the probably the most common as they tend to be light and fluffy.   Because the hair picks up powder and pigments wells and deposits smoothly, it is idea buffing and blending, since goat hair naturally brings luster to the skin.   Goat hair is often mixed with other types of bristles in makeup and cosmetic brushes because of its all round performance.

Squirrel hair brushes

Most squirrel hair for makeup brushes comes from Canada and Russia and is the softest natural hair type with the hair tips coming to a fine point.  Squirrel hair brushes have has good elasticity and is ideal blending to a very smooth finish.

3.UB2: eyeshadow brushes, powder brushes, blush brushes, eye brushes. I bought them separately. The price is fair, brush hair is soft and brush handle is good too. But the workmanship is not so good, the blush brush lose bristles….

4. Estée Lander: The Free gifts while buying the Cosmetic sets on Christmas. The transparent handle is very beautiful, and the brush quality is good too. There are three brushes, can sweep powder and blush, but only with one mini eyeshadow brushes, which is not good to apply eyeshadow.

5. BOBBI BROWN: eye smudge, eye shadow, eye blender. These makeup brushes are very good, recommend

To choose appropriate makeup brushes

There is an old Chinese saying: A workman must sharpen his tools if he is to do his work well. Makeup brushes, as the most important makeup tools, should have good quality to help the makeup become perfect. The brush hair is the most important factors of makeup brush quality.

 

There are various hairs on the market, as we introduced before, the hairs can generally divided into natural hair (animal hair) and artificial hair (synthetic fiber). The professional makeup artists think that we can not say natural hair is definitely better than artificial hair; it depends on the brush function.

 

Generally, the animal hair, as being very soft and with bigger angle, is better for the makeup brushes on the face, for example powder brushes and blush brushes etc. While artificial hair, stiffer but with longer life and easier to clean, is perfect for eyeshadow brushes or lip brushes. However, the artificial hair in the eyeshadow brushes, can not be too stiff, or it will hurt the face skin, it can not be too soft either, or it will not be able to apply perfect makeup. Therefore, the makeup brushes are usually with mix hair (mix natural hair with artificial hair). Besides, the natural hair will have some odor which should be eliminated during makeup brush manufacturing.

 

Many Chinese know that when buying writing brush, we should check if the brush tip is flat. The brush handle can be sharp or flat or with some angle, while the brush hair should be with natural arch shape, no manual shave.

 

Therefore, while choosing makeup brushes, if we find the brush tip is shaved, that means the brush hair is not so good. However, natural hair has its limit too, it often looses bristles. So before using the new brushes, we should puff the makeup brushes, brush on our hands for several times to remove the extra bristles.

Generally, to have perfect makeup, there are 5 essential makeup brushes:

1.       Blush brushes- the taper and cambered brush head can ensure even makeup, no matter how heavy the blush color is.

2.       Powder brushes-after applying foundation, use the round big powder brush to evenly apply the powder on to the face; or use the makeup sponge to apply powder onto face, then sweep the face by powder brush. The big and round powder brush can evenly apply powder to the whole face with the soft brush head.

How to store makeup brushes

Most makeup brands will offer free Makeup Brush Roll to store makeup brushes, you can also buy separate Makeup Brush Roll according to the quantity and size of your makeup brushes. Generally, small Makeup Brush Roll can put short makeup brushes or traveling brushes, while big Makeup Brush Roll will be better to store professional makeup brushes.

 

The makeup brushes that not presently used should insert into the Makeup Brush Roll, with head up. The makeup brushes with long handles are not so convenient to carry, so maybe you can buy some big brushes with shorter handle according to the Makeup Brush Roll size.

Right method to apply concealer

Concealers give a smooth look to the skin. It helps to hide the blemishes and roughness on the skin. Concealers are designed for variety of skin texture and shades. Concealer can be got in three forms namely liquid, cream and solid. Most popular are the concealer sticks as they are easy to apply. 

Use a fine tipped brush for applying concealer properly. Concealer is a very important part of makeup base. Try choosing a concealer shade which a shade lighter than the skin tone. To hide the under eye dark circles, apply a concealer with yellow tone.
Before applying concealer, apply a layer of eye cream. It will prevent concealer from drying and getting deposit in wrinkles and fine lines around eye. Concealer should be applied in small quantities and also a matt finish concealer is fine for creating a smooth look on the skin. Apply a skin moisturizer before application of concealer.

While selecting concealer, you should try find exact color matching your skin tone otherwise you will end up reflecting concealer marks on the face. It should be one or two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. If you have dry skin, go for liquid concealer. If you have pimples, acnes, blemishes and scars, solid concealers are the best. They come in the form of stick and easily applied directly over the spot. Another important tip for applying concealer is to use concealer having mineral colors for sensitive skin. Blend concealer finely with the translucent powder, as it will prevent concealer to crack and crease.

A concealer having mineral oils and high pigment level is the best for hiding skin blemishes. It is able to cover the scars and acne properly and stays there for longer period. Concealers have dense composition than foundation and are thicker than foundation. Use a darker shade of concealer in summers as, skin gets backed and tanned in sun in summers.

Right method to apply concealer

- First step for perfect concealer application is to apply under eye cream over the under eye area and apply a skin moisturizer over rest of the face. Let them get absorbed into the skin properly.
- Then put a spot of concealer directly over the skin. You can do this with the help of the flat concealer brush or the finger itself.
- Blend the concealer softly and you can use more moisturizer if needed for translucent feel. Blend concealer with your fingers moving in back and forth motion. Do not rub or pull the under eye skin.
- Then smile in front of the mirror and check that it does not get into the fine lines around eyes. You can always blot that extra concealer with tissue.
- After blending it, dust a little powder to set the concealer on the skin.

Concealer Makeup Tips

- To test the color of concealer, avoid testing it over the hand, rather match it with the color of face and neck.  Also test this in sunlight or very bright light as concealers shine awkwardly in sunlight if not matched properly. 
- For giving a smooth skin look, do not forget to apply concealer in the inside of the nose bridge and the outer corners of the eye.
- Also apply the concealer on the fine lines bending downwards on the corners of the lips. It will help you hide your age.
- Another tip is to apply the concealer over the foundation so that it does not get rubbed.
- You can apply thick layer of concealer but make sure that it does not get cakey.
- You can apply a bit extra concealer over the under eye area, if it is too dark.
- To hide the redness of acne, you should use yellow shaded concealer.
- While applying it on the lip area, be careful as it may hinder with lip color.
- Do not use soap and water to remove concealer, instead use face cleanser.
- Do not apply more than one coat of the concealer at a time.
- You can use only concealer as the makeup, skipping foundation.
- Do not apply too light or too pink concealer, as it will give owl eyes look.

Advance Preparation for Bridal Makeup

Bridal makeup id done on the wedding day but you should prepare yourself for the makeup many days before wedding. Any kind of makeup is perfect on the perfect skin. So you should start caring of skin in advance. You can apply traditional ubtans and facials to make the skin glowing soft. Regularly make use of astringent or lotion. Bridal Makeup

For the actual bridal makeup, you should first wash your face using face wash and cleansing milk. Do not forget to clean ears, neck and back. After cleansing, apply a mild moisturizer to soften the skin. First color ingredient using face is the concealer, which matches your skin tone. Apply it on the under eye area and the sides of the nose. Blend it thoroughly with oil free foundation, which should be applied all over the face, neck, lips and the ears to have even skin tone. Shade of foundation should be a shade lighter than skin tone but not more than that. After that apply translucent powder over foundation. Eye makeup is very important part of bridal makeup as eyes attract anyone you meet. Use brown tone eyeshadow with thin white eyeliner on the eyelids. It will highlight and lift the eyes. Applying makeup in monsoon always has risk of getting smudged whenever you step out of home. You need to apply some special kind of makeup to withstand wet conditions and still look gorgeous. There are few tips to be followed while applying makeup in a rainy day as applying makeup on rainy day is a challenge.

In monsoons, you can apply waterproof mascara, waterproof eyeliner, water resistant lipsticks and waterproof foundation too, if you cannot live without it. Do not put oil or gel in your hair, as it will make some different mix with water. Another point is to keep your face clean by getting right eyebrow shape and upper lips done. Also, you can use compact powder on face to fight with humid air. Monsoon or no monsoon, makeup should be less enough so that it does not cover your natural beauty.

Preparing the Base

Base of makeup is prepared by foundation. If necessary, apply as little as possible.  If you apply cream foundation, it gets melt with water easily. Powder foundations are better than this. Face powder is even better. You can use silicon base foundation as it gets blended with skin and becomes its part. On the other hand, if you use water-based foundation, it will get patchy with even one drop of water. You can apply just moisturizer and then translucent powder. Do not apply excess of powder; instead use it sparingly because when wet it gives sickly and chalky look.

Blush for Monsoon

Eye Makeup for Monsoon

You can also try some nude shades lipsticks, which last longer. Also light browns and pinks are popular with women. In place of this, you an apply lip conditioner also. Some women prefer to use matte lipsticks in this season. You can use lip liner but that should also be water proof otherwise it will rundown once rain starts pouring.

Some handy Tips for Makeup in Monsoon Season

- Before starting makeup, your face should be clean and to decrease the sweat rate, rub ice cube for 5 to 10 minutes. It will help makeup to stay longer.
- People with oily skin should use astringent and toner should be used for normal to dry skin. It will freshen the skin.
- Completely avoid foundation and use powder instead.

The Makeup Brushes You Need

If you have ever been to the brush aisle at a big beauty store chain, you know the selection of makeup tools and makeup brushes can seem endless, given the multitude of shapes and sizes. You only really need, however, a few items to create a flawless face.
Face
To start, you should have a concealer brush to cover any blemishes or dark under eye circles.
Next youll need a makeup sponge to apply your foundation. A sponge will blend better than using your fingers alone and, if you are prone to breakouts, using your fingers can add extra oil to your skin that you really dont need. Choose a triangle shaped sponge and it will make it easier to get into spaces around your nose and eyes.
To complete your base, you should have a big fluffy powder brush. You can use this to apply loose powder, dust on a finishing power or even to apply bronzer. Though if youre a powder puff kind of girl, choose that tool instead. Some experts even feel its the better option because the puff helps the powder stay on while a brush lets the powder fly around.
Eyes
To create a beautiful eye, start with an eye shadow brush. Unlike the tiny sponge applicators that may come with your shadows, a brush can allow you to get more depth and to blend colors.
If youre a fan of cream eye shadows, use a makeup sponge - not your fingers, which again can add extra oil to your makeup causing cakiness.
An eyelash curler, used before applying mascara, will help curve your lashes upward, making your eyes pop.
Dont forget a pair of tweezers, which youll need to pluck stray eyebrows.

Makeup and Skin Care with Makeup Products

Everything has a life and survives only till a limit so the same rule applies on make up. Make up too doesnt last for forever and has a life span. All make up products including foundations, lipsticks, shampoo, soaps, conditioners, sprays, mail polish, compact powder, mascara, deodorants, face wash, face packs, liners and eye shadows have a limit to run and if used over their life span then they cause some side effects and harm to your body and skin. One can check the life span of the make up the same way one checks it on the medicines and can dump them after the time limit gets over.
To make the cosmetics run till a good time to serve one needs to care the entire make up range properly and one should remember that each cosmetic requires a different way to look after. If we behave carelessly with our cosmetics, then they dont serve us the way they should and we decrease their time limit of usage. If we always keep the creams, lotions or foundations bottles open or close them loose then they lose the quality and might get spoiled with the air, which enters into them. So they should always be closed tight. That way the entire make up items need a specific care pattern. So here is the way one should keep the make up carefully to run them to their best.
Foundation-- foundations dont have a very long life span. If opened they last for at least a year and if not opened then they can last for maximum 2 years. The bottle should be kept at a dry cool place and should be closed tight after the usage. If kept in light or direct sunlight it gets spoilt. One can even come to know with the smell and texture change if the foundation is getting expired.
Lipsticks-lipsticks have a life span of one and half years if opened and up to two years if packed. They should not be kept in heat and can be kept in refrigerator if they are melting because of the humidity or heat in the weather. They should be kept in a dry cool place and always closed properly after the use. One should not give ones lipsticks to others to use as it can pass infections. Lipsticks too starts giving a changed odor if they are extending their time limit so one can come to know that the lipstick is getting expired and can stop using it to prevent oneself from any side effects.

Hair Brushes- Hairbrushes do require proper cleaning and hygiene. One can wash them of while soaking them in a mild lukewarm soap or shampoo solution with some anti bacteria solution in it. When washed they can be dried in the fresh air. One should not share ones comb and brushes with others as it might pass on scalp infections, lice or dandruff. One should keep changing the combs and hairbrushes in 6-8 months because the usage is high and its better to change them for better hygiene for your hair and scalp.
Eye Shadows and Blushers-eye shadows and blushers do last for a year if opened no matter if they are in the form of loose powder or solid stick and cake. They cannot last beyond two years even if the pack is closed. While using also one can come to know the expiry time with the changing smell and color. One should keep all these colors at a cool dry place in no light as light changes the texture and color.
Eyeliners- eyeliners do not have a long time span. They can last up to two years if sealed and maximum a year if opened for use. One should be more careful with the time span of the eyeliners as they might cause more damage to the eyes if used after the expiry time, as eyes are one of the most sensitive feature of the body.
Makeup brushes- Makeup brushes too require time-to-time cleaning. Every time after the usage they should be dusted. Once in a month they should be soaked in mild solution and wiped with cotton linen and should be dried in natural air. They should be discarded in a year or depending upon the usage.
Nail colors- nail colors or paints do need to be kept without light in a dark cool place. They can last up to a year if opened and 2 years if sealed. The bottle should be kept tightly so that air shouldnt enter inside. One can come to know if the nail color is giving up with the increasing thickness of it. It gets clumsy after time and takes longer to dry. So one should stop using the nail color then.
Eye pencils-eye pencils should be kept properly shaped with their cover on them. They should be discard after a year. If one keeps using these pencils after the expiry they can give the real damage to the eyes. One should never share ones eye pencil with others. If someone gets any infection in the eyes then should stop using the eye pencil till the eye problem gets over.
Mascara- mascara doesnt have a long life span. When opened be used for couple of months and if it is sealed it can be kept for a year. It gets thick and sticky with the time.
Hair care products- one should check the manufacturing date on the hair care products and should stop using them after six months. One should stop immediately using them if there is any change in color or odor or if some gets hair fall or itching on the scalp with any of the hair care product.
Compact powders- compact powders do last for a year. One should not touch the puff with the compact powder with sweaty hands or wet hands. It spoils the quality and decreases the life of it. It should be kept dried and closed.
So if proper care is taken one ca use the makeup products for a longer time and get the value of the money.

Tips to Get a Good Concealer

Concealers are used to hide the scars, blemishes and spots from the face. They cannot remove it but give and illusion and hide them. They come in many forms as liquid, tubes and sticks. One can choose any of them as per the usage.

They are a very important part of your make up kit. Having one small stick of the concealer is the must to hide your acne scars, dark circles or if any other spot you have on the face which might spoil your looks and your make up if not covered properly.

Concealer should not be applied on the spot, acne or blemish directly from the tube or stick, it might spread the bacteria infection in ones conceler tube or stick and whenever one will use it again on the face, one might get infection on the face. It can be taken on a fingertip and can be applied on the spot with it. One can even use sponge buds or cotton buds, which are used to apply eyeshades.

Concealers are the best to hide out spots in an emergency. One has to apply conceler with foundation and should blend it well with the shade of foundation otherwise it will look different and even if you will be successful in hiding your spot, you will get a patch that will be a different shade of conceler on your skin than your foundation. So both of them should gel well.

One should buy the conceler keeping in mind the shade of ones foundation as if you buy a very light conceler than your skin tone, you will barely be able to hide your scar or spot.

While putting make up on the face, conceler should be applied before foundation and than foundation should be blended accordingly.

If right amount and right kind of conceler applied on the blemish or scar, it can totally make it look invisible. But whenever applied it should be removed after the use as any other substance is not good on the pimple and scar if left for long time.
