Private label mineral makeup is not so private

Concerns have been raised in the last few years that private label mineral makeup companies may not be not following FDA regulations and policies.   A number of mineral makeup company labels state they are the makeup manufacturer and formulator when in fact they are only the product distributor. These being mineral makeup companies who are purchasing bulk mineral makeup from suppliers to claim private label. Less than 7% of mineral makeup companies in the US are manufacturing and formulating their mineral makeup products. The FDA stipulates and consumers require legally labeled mineral makeup products and their complete ingredient lists.

At one time more information was available regarding private label mineral makeup brand labels through makeup blogs and mineral makeup forums. Mineral makeup company owners and bulk/wholesale prepackaged and loose mineral makeup product sellers requested these listings of who’s who information on websites be removed.  Removal of the detailed whos buying from whom in bulk lists leaves consumers to assume each mineral makeup brand logo on the market is different.

There are however, cosmetic companies that provide their trademarked real private label logo products wholesale. These makeup products are always pre-labeled and safety-sealed with the selling wholesale mineral makeup company brand logo. An Example would be salons or retail establishments that carry the private label Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics logo. Jane Iredale does not offer her products for others to claim as any other private label mineral makeup logo, nor does Id bareMinerals, M.A.C. Cosmetics., L’Oreal, Maybelline, Colour ID Minerals, etc. Unhappy consumers are voicing their opinions in regards to this cosmetic industry problem. Consumers do not want to waste their money, especially in this poor economy, purchasing mineral makeup brand products they may have already tried, but are being sold under different logos.

Mineral makeup labels are one of the only sources consumers use to locate facts on product ingredients and manufacturing distribution. If concerned with a makeup brand label appearing incorrect, it is recommended you read the information on the US Food and Drug website for Cosmetic and Toiletries website.
