The red wood makeup brush handle

The red wood in fact is a kind of collective, which includes: Sequoia and Sequoiadendron of California and Oregon, USA; and Metasequoia in China. These trees can live to an old age, with some for hundreds to thousands of years.

 

Red wood is an endangered wood due to habitat losses from: fire ecology suppression, logging, development, and air pollution. In China, Metasequoia trees are so rare they were thought to be extinct, until rediscovered by a Chinese forester in 1948. They were found on mountainous slopes in remote parts of the Hubei region of China.

 

When something is scarce, it is precious, since red wood is so scarce, its price must be very high, and therefore the products made of red wood will also be expensive too, it is also the case for makeup brushes.

 

During custom makeup brushes, to show the top-grade, some customers will ask for red wood handle for their brushes, while finally they will find that the price is too high for them, as since the handle uses so high-grade material, the bristle and ferrule should use top grade material too, such as the best goat hair whose price is about 4 times of the common good goat hair, so that the whole makeup brush can look superior. Therefore, the unit price of the makeup brush will be too expensive, even the big brands like MAC and BB will not use red wood for their brushes.

 

To handle this, many Chinese makeup brush factories suggest immitating red wood to customers. Imitating red wood is also a kind of high-grade wood material, which is very similar to red wood but much cheaper, so that the whole makeup brush can look very elegant and superior, and not only the customers but also the end users can afford this. Of course, we will tell customers that it is not real red wood but a imitating one, it totally depends on customers if to accept or not.
