Makeup brush Material: Copper ferrule VS aluminum ferrule

From our previous articles, many customers may have known the difference between aluminum ferrule and copper ferrule ,i.e: the cost of copper ferrule is 4-5 times of aluminum ferrule. The hardness is 10 times of aluminum ferrule. Copper ferrule is thicker/heavier/brighter/durable than aluminum ferrule.

However, after plating oranodizing with difference colors, we may not distinguish them by brightness. The following is some tips to distinguish copper ferrule with aluminum ferrule:

So during customizing makeup brushes, shall we use copper ferrules or aluminum ferrules on our brushes? It depends on your budget and target market. Many luxurious brands only accept copper ferrule due to its brightness and luxurious, as they targets to top customers, so they use best materials for each part: top grade animal hair, copper ferrule, ebony handles. If your target market is middle/low market, it is really no necessary to pay extra cost on ferrules, use better hair material will be a better choice, after all, it is the most important part of the whole makeup brushes, and users can directly feel the quality by touching. 

The production process of beauty blender

Now, almost every makeup artist have a beauty blender in their makeup tool collection. It can give us a flawless makeup due to its good performance in foundation makeup. Beauty blender itself has cute appearance, so it has been sought after by various users for many years. But do you know how the cute beauty blends are produced? The following chart may give you a rough idea on the production process:

During the whole process, the most important step is foaming, in this process, we can control the softness by adjusting the time/temperature etc. Therefore, even with the same material, the softness of the beauty blender from different factories may be different.

The glue on makeup brushes

During makeup brush production, glues are essential to assemble ferrules to handles. The most common glue used on makeup brushes is glue rods. We put the glue rod into electrical glue gun,after electrified, the glue rod will melt, then we insert the handle into ferrule to finish the assembly. The glue rod will quickly dry in several seconds. More than 90% makeup brush factories use glue rods during the assembly due to its convenience and quickness.

However, after 2 years, or in the environment where has big temperature difference, the handle may fall off from ferrule, as the glue cannot well attach to handles. Such issue seldom happens, but if it really happens, we just need to use lighter to bake the bottom ferrule where connects handles for several seconds. Then the original glue melt, so that we can insert the handle into ferrule to do the assemble again. It is very easy and every one can do it, the only thing is to be careful in case of hurt by hot ferrule.

The second most common glue used on makeup brushes is AB glue, it is a kind of fragile glue and very strong which is hardly fall off. But it is more difficult to assemble makeup brushes with AB glue as it is fluid. If the workers are not professional enough, the handle may slant and cannot well connect the ferrule. Also, if the handle unfortunately fall off from the ferrule, we can only use new AB glue to do the assembly again.

How to produce the synthetic hair of makeup brushes

We all know that natural hair is cut from animals: goat hair is cut from goat; pony hair is cut from pony etc. But how we get the synthetic hair? Or how is the synthetic hair produced? Today, we will take PBT synthetic hair as an example to show you the manufacturing process of synthetic hair.

The production flow:

 During the whole process, the workers take a very important role; their skills and experience decide the hair quality. They control the machine time, the temperature, the color etc. Therefore, even if some process is finished by machine, the whole quality is controlled by the workers. Even with the same material and machine, the final synthetic hair will be different.

During custom private label makeup brushes, each process and step is very important and may affect the final quality. Therefore, if customers want to exact copy their existing hair material, it will be the best to send us the physical samples of the hairs you want, so that we can adjust the machine and temperature accordingly.

Talk something about injection molding for plastic handles of makeup brushes

For some customized makeup brushes with plastic handles, injection molding is essential to get required handle shape. It is known that the plastic injection molding cost is rather high; some customers cannot understand why they have to pay so much while they have not got any sample yet. They questioned that even with 3D printing, the price is much lower than injection molding.

Here we need to explain something about injection molding. It is true that the molding cost is high, but with such mold, the following cost on each brush handle will be very low. The plastic factory staff only need to put raw material into the mold, and comes out the exact required handles. With such mold, the handle dimension and shape will be 100% the same as request. And it only needs one mold no matter how many handles you need, also, it can be used in all following orders.

Of course, if the order quantity of the makeup brushes is too small, it is not cost-effective to develop a mold, as with such molding cost, the average price of each brush will be high. In this case, it is better to change the handle to wooden handle.

If the order quantity is big enough with special handle design, injection molding is the best choice.

The makeup brush drawings for customizing makeup brushes

During customizing makeup brushes, many customers send us physical samples or drawings per our request. Physical samples are the best choice in case of misunderstanding, but some designs are new to the market, so no available physical samples, so they send us 2D or 3D drawings instead to show their ideas and designs on the makeup brushes.

For some customers, 2D or3D drawings are too professional, the cost to have the engineer to create the 3D drawings is too high, so they prefer to draw draft by themselves. We can also accept such draft as long as the information on the draft is clear enough, with such draft, we can initially quote a rough cost, and move on forward.

The following is the required information on the makeup brush draft:

1.  The diameter/length of handle& ferrule& bristle; if the dimension of each part is different, all dimension should be marked.

2.  The material of handle& ferrule& bristle

Some customers send us the draft only with the brush shape, without any dimension information; we can not quote or produce with such drafts. So if customers cannot offer 2D or 3D drawings, please at least provide drafts with all above information.

Typhoon Mangkhut caused production shutdown of most makeup brush factories

Yesterday-Sep 16th, Typhoon Mangkhut moved across the inland area of southern China, and caused heavy damage on the local area. The Maximum sustained wind near centre was75 km/h, before its coming, all of our local schools and factories are shutdown in case of any casualties.

Our factories also stopped production on makeup brushes, our workers stayed at their home until the typhoon passes. So the makeup brush orders that are scheduled to ship out maybe delayed several days, as all logistics also stopped working due to the typhoon. Also, the incoming storm will also cause the delay on production and logistics.
