How to remove the hair smell

Many customers feedback that some of our makeup brushes have heavy smell, especially white goat hair. It is known that goats have mutton smell, so the goat hair certainly will contain such mutton smell. Although we have try to minimize such smell during the sterilization and dyeing, it is very hard to completely get rid of such smell. Especially for the makeup brushes with white goat hair- the original goat hair color, without the processing of dyeing, the smell will be heavier than the brushes with dyed hairs. Careful customers will find that brushes with black hairs have lighter smell than white hairs.

 

Although we will try our best to minimize the smell, it will more or less have some smells left. Here, we would like to show how to remove the goat hair smell if we find the brushes we bought have some smell:

 

1.       wash the bristle with shampoo and then air-dry it. Water can get rid of some smell, and dry it by air can also remove some smell. DO NOT DRY IT UNDER SUN.

2.       If you do not want to wash the brush, or the brush still have smell after washing, you can put the brush in ventilation place for some perido, such as 3-7 days. The airflow will help to remove the smell. Usually, after 7 days, the smell will be removed.

3.       If users do not care such smell too much and can not wait to use the brush, you can also directly use the brushes, the smell will gradually disappear after certain period. Also the fragrance of the powders will gradually cover the goat hair smell.

 

All animal hairs will contain some smell, we hope customers can understand it is not quality problem. We will try our best to remove the smell during our production, but it is really the material characteristics which is hard to be affected by human beings.

 

 

Why the makeup brushes fall hairs

Many ladies are troubled by the hair falling of makeup brushes no matter how expensive the brushes are. If the brushes keep falling many hairs for long time, it must be quality problem. But most makeup brush manufacturers will tell you that it is normal to have several hairs falling at the beginning. Here we would like to explain why the makeup brushes fall hairs:
It is known that the standard production process should be as following: weight certain hairs and comb, insert the hairs into moulds to shape, bundle up the hairs with string, insert the hairs into ferrule and adjust the exposed length, dip glue onto the hairs from ferrule, shape after glue dried, assemble handles, and pack the brushes for shipment.
The whole production process is manual, so the work craft will determine the quantity of hair falling.
Firstly, if the hair quality is not good, with too many short hairs or broken hairs, the brushes will certainly fall a lot of hairs.
Although the combing can remove some short hairs, it can not remove all short and broken hairs. That is why it is normal to have several hairs falling at the beginning.
Secondly, during bundling up the hairs with string, as good animal hairs are very soft and thin, if too tight, the hairs will be broken; if too loose, it will affect the glue affect. Therefore, too tight or too loose will both cause hair falling. Also, to save time and cost, some low-grade makeup brushes will cancel such process, which will certainly cause hairs falling.
Finally, gluing is one of the most important processes for hair falling. The glue should be a kind of special glue, with waterproof and can withstand high temperature. Otherwise, the glue will dissolve after watering, and then the makeup brushes will fall buckets of hairs. Also, during washing brushes, if the glue can not sustain high temperature, the makeup brushes will also fall a lot of hairs if the water is a little hot.
Anyway, it is normal to have several hairs falling at the beginning. Users no need to become angry once seeing hairs falling and assume it to be quality problem. In the following articles, we will introduce some methods to reduce hairs falling of makeup brushes during daily using and washing.

The goat hair color

It is know that the brush hair can be dyed to various colors to meet customers’ different requirements during custom makeup brushes. Generally, the powder brushes and blush brushes are made of goat hair and usually in black, so some believe that the original color of goat hair is black.

 

It is really a misunderstanding. The original goat hair is white; you can see the hair on goats. And its original color is not pure white but with light yellow. Such color seems not so clean, so some makeup brush manufacturers choose to dye the hair to dark color to cover the light yellow, for example, black, red, brown. However, there are some customers who really like white color, then the goat hair will be bleached to pure white.

 

In fact, even if the natural goat hair is not in pure color, it is very clean once used on makeup brushes. After cutting from the goats, the hair will be sterilized &boiled to kill the virus and bacterial, and then sell to the makeup brush factory to manufacturer the makeup brushes. Therefore, although not so beautiful, it is just as safe as other colors and will not be harm to human skin.

 

That is why some customers prefer natural hair color for their brushes. They believe that without any dyeing, the brushes with natural hair color are much better than those brushes have been dyed to many colors.

 

Anyway, the hair color really depends on customers’ personal preference, for the makeup brush manufacturers, it makes no difference to have natural color or any dyed color.

Best part is it will last longer than synthetic hair and get softer with use as opposed to a synthetic that gets stiffer over time.
Sable Hair Makeup Brushes – Sable is very popular as it is the most durable brush as well as being incredibly soft. With proper care they can last a lifetime and are well worth their price. There are a few levels of quality when it comes to sable. Kolinsky is the highest, red sable is in the middle and then there is just plain sable. These brushes are very resilient and are known for keeping their shape even after several uses. Sable hair are long and come to a fine point, generally very thick in the middle allowing a conical shape.
Squirrel Hair Makeup Brushes – It is known as the softest natural hair available in makeup brushes. It is thin, fine, and durable as well as consisting of a thick belly and a fine tip. These features give the brush a defining cone like shape. They are not from the typical backyard squirrel but from a long haired squirrel which makes these rare and popular. They are great for blending heavy pigment such as eye shadow brushes. It is important to note that since they can be pricey that some brushes are mixed with other types of hair so it is recommended to read the fine print before committing to a squirrel makeup brush.
Badger Hair Makeup Brushes – Badger hair is very firm and makes for a great fan brush, eyebrow brush and bronzer brush. Like a sable hair, the badger hair is thicker at the base and gets thinner near the tip. Even though it is very firm it also has a flexible quality to it. There are 9 hair categories and 50 hair types, which are sold to 21 countries and regions, for example Japan, the United States, Korea, Southeast Asia, Western Europe etc. the productivity and sales amount of ZhangDian animal hair takes about 70% market share in China, it is the largest production base of the animal hair and the largest distribution center of finished product.

 

In 1975, just before reform and opening, Guoyin Xie got known that Tianjin hair processing market has great prospect, so he took the lead in the hair processing, after a bitter defeat, he finally get the recognition from the national import and export companies, and got the first international orders. After becoming Rich, he used his customer relationship and lead villagers to process animal hairs in the "company + farmer" form. In 2002, to resolve the marketing problem and improve processing efficiency, he invested 500 million to establish a brush factory. Now, the factories annual productivity of finished hair reaches 300tons, output value reaches 26 millions RMB, and help to absorb more than 200 labor force.

 

Xueyin Hu, a ordinary farmer, found a makeup brush factory together with a Korean company, the annual output value reaches 20 million RMB and help to absorb more than 150 labor force. Under the leadership of Guoyin Xie and Xueyin Hu, the hair process industries developed quickly in Zhangdian, and have become one of the mainstay industries in Luyi.

 

According to the report, now the worldwide annual consumption of various brushes reaches 500 millions, so the related animal hair demand is more than 100,000 tons, among this, goat hair takes about 42%, while the main process base of goat hair mainly locates in China（71%）, Australia（21%）, Canada (6%), just so few countries.

 

Now Zhangdian government has released many policies to support the animal hair industry, they aim to become the international processing base for worldwide customers in makeup brushes, industrial brushes and so on.

Makeup brushes by Hair/Bristle

The makeup brush hair can be natural or synthetic. The following is the brief introduction and their application in makeup brush manufacturing:

1.      Goat Hair: Goat hair is the most popular hair in makeup brush manufacturing. The goat hair itself has different grades, which can meet different requirements from different customers on the makeup brush hair. Also the thickness of goat hair is easy for the workers to handle.

The high-grade goat hair is the best choice for large brushes, which can meet requirements on softness as well as flexibility。

         

2.      Pony Hair: pony hair also has different grades and hair length. It is divided into brown pony hair, white pony hair, dye black pony hair etc. The pony hair can be natural or hand washed. The hand washed pony hair is soft, even softer than goat hair. The price of long and hand washed pony hair is almost the same or more expensive than goat hair. So it is wrong to consider pony hair as poor hair.

It is known that the skin around eye is most sensitive, so the eye brushes must be very soft. Usually, the Sable hair, chinchilla hair, squirrel hair, nylon and pony hair are used for eye brushes. However, the nylon is rather stiff, the Sable hair and squirrel hair is rather expensive, so the pony hair, which is very soft and cost-effective, becomes the best choice for eye brushes.

3.      Chinchilla hair: high grade hair, it is very soft and satiny, no need to process. Chinchilla hair is the thinnest hair in all hairs. However it is too soft so that the elasticity is not good enough. It is usually used for powder brush and shadow brush.

4.      Squirrel hair: high grade hair, it is the most satiny hair, but the hair root is thick, thus, Squirrel hair should not be individually used for powder brushes or blush brushes. And because the hair is too satiny and the hair root is too thick, the hair is easy to drop off during production. Therefore, the Squirrel hair is suit for eye brush or mini powder brush. For larger brush, it is not so good.

5.      Raccoon Hair: A kind of high grade hair, usually used for mini fan powder brushes.

6.      Badger hair: Usually used for eye contour brush.

7.      Bristle Hair: Usually used for eye contour brush

8.      Sable hair: high grade hair, the unit price is 4-5 times of chinchilla hair. The sable hair has no long hair, so is usually used for eye brushes. Its softness and elasticity are both perfect, however too expensive, so it is not so popular in China.

9.      Nylon or Taklon, i.e. synthetic hair, in USA, it is called synthetic sable hair. It is mainly divided into two types: curved shape and straight shape. The curved hair is after special processing, the hair become curved, which is mainly used for large makeup brushes, such as powder brush or blush brush. The straight hair can be divided into single color hair, double colors hair and three colors hair. The straight hair is mainly used for Foundation Brushes or eye brushes.
